The dispute was based on an earlier incident when Ms. Cheung noticed that Ah Bee’s daughter, Tinka, had bleeding gums. Ms. Cheung accused Ah Bee of hitting her, exercising disciplinary action. In the main lobby of the apartment complex, Ms. Cheung accused Ah Bee, pointing a finger to his face. In this argument, someone took Ms. Cheung’s cellular phone and threw it on the ground. The police were called and Ms. Fan was arrested.
The argument revolved around 16-year-old Tinka. After the divorce, Tinka was raised by her stepmother, Ms. Fan. The pair developed a mutually loving mother-daughter relationship. After the incident, it was reported that Tinka lost sleep because of her worries for Ms. Cheung. On her Facebook page, Tinka reported that her mother and father have been loving parents, but why are they hurt in this way? Why are there people who are so evil in this world?
In regards to the disciplinary action, Tinka was asked by reporters about this. She initially refused to answer but later said ‘no’ to the question of whether social workers are following-up on the case.
In response, Tinka’s older brother who is studying in California, wrote on his Facebook page, echoing his sister’s words, raising support for his parents. With an angry tone and some vulgar language, he asked for people to leave his family alone. He will even sever family ties with his aunt, Ms. Cheung, if his father’s side of the family is bothered again.
Teresa Cheung, mother of Ah Bee’s two older children, rushed back to Hong Kong immediately to see her daughter and to support her sister. The case is now being handled by lawyers.
