Last November, Shirley Yeung did a travel show Travelling With Koyo for TVB. She travelled to Miyagi located in northeastern Japan, Fukushima, Akita, Iwate, Aomori, Yamagata, Nigata and other cities. After several months, the northeastern part of Japan was tragically destroyed by a 9.0 large earthquake. Shirley feels frustrated: "At the time, we went for 3 weeks, the local scenery was beautiful, the locals there were very simple and honest. We went to the fish market, wine factory and toured other regions. The villagers were very friendly to foreign visitors, we all took many pictures to keep for memories. Now in a split second, the area gets attacked by a tsunami, watching the live broadcast on TV, seeing the people can't get away in time, my heart is cold, so terrifying."
Shirley felt mother nature is giving us a warming sign, calling us to strengthen environmental awareness: "This earthquake led to radiation problems that affected so many areas and though Hong Kong may not necessary have this problem, but we are living on the same planet, it's a deep feeling. I will pay more attention to the environment and treat my family well." Asked if she would consider getting married earlier? She did Tai Chi and said: "Nope, but I will cherish the people in my life."
Earlier Shirley encountered an accident in Macau, where she fell down the stairs. Her mother was the most worried, she said: "When I got back to Hong Kong, I told my mom first thing. The next day, she saw my injury and was very worried. Now my leg, waist, back and neck are still in so much pain. Perhaps I will need to take a break for some time."
Initially she was to go to Guangzhou to shoot another travel special, but now it's canceled. She sighed that it's a pity: "I've donw all the preparations before. To be able to eneter the world cultural heritage, it is well worth to see the natural scenery. This time I can't go, but I do plan to go one time on my own expense."
