Cecilia Cheung's alarming abusing clip circulates online

Yesterday a clip of Cecilia Cheung getting abused madly circulated in Mainland. In one part, Cecilia was seen having stage props stuffed in her mouth, making it difficult for her to speak. The media confused the 2008 Artist Photo Scandal with the clip to sell a story. Towards this, Cecilia's manager Emily refuted that the clip was shot before Cecilia was married in 2006. It was just a clip of art, and does not understand why it's being speculated now. The actions are just complete nonsense!

After the whole marriage crisis between Cecilia and Nicholas Tse, the two were finally able to start a new life. When we all thought things got back to normal, yesterday a clip suddenly started circulating in Mainland where Cecilia was seen wearing a tank top, black underpants, hands tied up behind her and a black strap with ball over her mouth. Close-up, we can see that Cecilia is struggling with tears and sweat.

Emily expressed that the clip was filmed in 2006 before Cecilia's marriage: "She was just helping a friend (Vernie Yeung) shoot a clip of art. The clip was on the internet for a while now, I just don't understand why it's being speculated now!"

Sammi Cheng: Talking about Andy Hui again is so boring

Yesterday Sammi Cheng attended an event for fashion label Aquascutum as their spokesperson. When speaking of Sammi hurried over to Andy Hui's concert right after she got back to HK from Macau, she laughed and admitted: "I wasn't rushing, just working normally." She expressed she only enjoyed a third of the concert. Was Andy upset she only watched for a short time? She embarrassingly begged for mercy: "Help me! Don't talk about him. (Today your outfit for this fashion label event was chosen for you by Andy?) Not related to him, I choose my own clothing. We are always talking about Andy, so boring."

When speaking of Andy mentioning if Sammi or Dicky Cheung fell in the water together, he'll only rescue Sammi and not Dicky? Sammi laughed: "It's just from his heart, I don't want to talk about it anymore because this is never ending. Dicky Cheung made a huge scene this time! I hope everyone will give us some space. We hope to be together like a regular couple as much as possible. Aside from work, we still have our own private space." Dicky called her 'Mrs. On'? She said: "I cannot hear, not responding."

It was rumored the Mainland PRC Censorship issued a "limit order" on Hong Kong artists to participate in Mainland programs to avoid stealing jobs from local artists. Sammi expressed: "I am not worried, there will naturally be a door that opens. I also don't know the issue."

“The Life and Times of a Sentinel” Finale Peaks at 40 Points

*SPOILERS of The Life and Times of A Sentinel Ahead*

TVB received three complaints last week over the recently-concluded drama, The Life and Times of A Sentinel "????". The complaints were lodged against Evergreen Mak’s (???) hand-chopping scene, which was described as too violent and gruesome. The Associate Director of TVB’s External Affairs Department, Tsang Sing Ming (???), explained that parental guidance was advised and had already reminded viewers about the scene earlier. Last Friday, when the drama was broadcasting its last episode, the highest viewership rating reached 40 points as Steven Ma’s (???) Nip Dor-Po hugged Selena Li’s (???) deceased Chi-Ying and cried painfully.

In other news, the ratings for another set of drama, Lives of Omission "????", have been steadily increasing and a finale dinner would be thrown on September 9th at Emax Entertainment Centre. The entire cast and crew of Lives of Omission were expected to attend.

Joyce Tang Increases Cup Size and Confidently Bounces Around

TVB artist, Joyce Tang (???), had earlier signed on as a spokesperson for a breast enhancement salon. Before shooting this advertisement, Joyce had undergone three months of breast enhancement treatment to present a tight and busty effect. In order to fulfill the meaning behind this advertisement which was “bouncing up,” Joyce donned a sexy black bra and pants and jumped wildly on a trampoline for the advertisement.

After filming wrapped, Joyce smiled and said, “Wow, actually jumping on a trampoline can be very challenging! Furthermore, it had to be matched with several elegant poses. Fortunately, I had already practiced for three hours prior to this so even if I am required to elegantly jump up one level’s height, it shouldn’t be a problem at all.”

Joyce was initially worried that she might accidentally exposed herself while jumping on the trampoline. She revealed that before this breast enhancement, if she was required to film sexy roles, she would have to spend time to add padding or tapes to create the illusion of an “increased cup size.” However, now that she has successfully enhanced her chest, she would be rid of such troubles in the future. Joyce smiled and continued, “After shooting this advertisement, I discovered that my body looked much better, even carrying off and filling up a bra perfectly. My initial worry that I might accidentally expose myself while jumping in a bra also completely disappeared. It was an unduly worry as there wasn’t even a single slip-up. I felt extremely confident when doing any movements!”

Fiona Sit and Khalil Fong Go On a “Date” to Cure Hungry Tummies

Khalil Fong (???) who had just completed three consecutive concerts at one go, rarely had time off and spent it asking rumored girlfriend, Fiona Sit (???) out to chill and relax. The day before yesterday, at 4.30 PM in the afternoon, Fiona who was wearing a hat and pink spaghetti strap dress over a black spaghetti top, dined at a restaurant in the Central district with Khalil. He also disguised himself by wearing a black cap and sunglasses.

Upon entering the restaurant and sitting down, Fiona only ordered a salad which was low in calories while Khalil ordered Italian pasta. During the meal, both of them chatted and shared laughs. Khalil even talked until he danced away with his hands, making Fiona have a huge smile plastered across her face.

When the duo left the restaurant, the reporter asked whether the “date” was a successful one. In reply to this, Fiona responded, “No lahs! It was just a normal lunch mahs!” In contrast, Khalil was embarrassed, lowered his head and played on his phone. After responding, both of them waved goodbye to the reporters and left.

Charmaine Sheh supports Linda Chung & Myolie Wu for this year's TV Queen

Although Charmaine Sheh is no longer under TVB's management, lately she still has been busy shooting for her new series 4 In Love with them. The other night at Sai Yeung Choi street in Mong Kok, Charmaine was shooting outdoor scenes near a large building with Florence Kwok and 13 other Extras. A majority of the Extras were foreigners, it turns out that the scene is about Charmaine's role as an international celebrity shooting a Sci-Fi Hollywood film, therefore she had a white wig on. Charmaine said: "Everything seems blurry with white contact lenses on, so it's quite difficult."

When speaking of the TVB Anniversary Awards at the end of the year, audience are starting to pay more attention to the possible candidates for TV King and Queen. Charmaine was asked who she has in mind? She said frankly: "Don't need to ask me about TV King, of course I choose Laughing Gor Michael Tse, we are friends all the way, support him! I know Lives of Omission is getting good ratings, having to choose is truly difficult for us. (How about TV Queen?) Yes Sir, Sorry Sir's Linda Chung and The Rippling Blossom's Myolie Wu aren't bad choices. (Do you have confidence for yourself?) Honestly I may not even be there because I may not be able to attend. In September I have to be in Mainland to shoot for a new TV series Legend of the Yuan Founder."

Karen Mok Gushes Over October Wedding; Wants Mixed Blood Baby

Earlier in June, Karen Mok (???) announced that she will be marrying her German boyfriend, Johannes, who is working in the financial industry and also her first love. The couple’s wedding will be held in Italy on October 1, 2011.

After her marriage, 41-year-old Karen Mok will “upgrade” and become a stepmother to her husband’s three children from a previous marriage. Karen herself who has Welsh, Chinese, German and Persian blood in her, hinted that she will not take any precautions and will wait for heaven to give her a international mixed blood baby of her own.

Karen divulged, “There is really a lot to handle for the wedding and every aspect has to be prepared in advance. Now the preparations are almost done but there are still some minor things here and there that have not been arranged yet. Fortunately, Johannes (her future husband-to-be) will see to them personally. After all marriage is a matter between two people. I have an easily agitated temper while he is more of a steady and stable guy, which is very good (no clashing of personalities). Hence, we have yet to quarrel over the wedding preparations as he often gives in to me.”

Another Banquet in Hong Kong In November

Karen shared details of the wedding, “Our wedding will be held at a church in a vineyard in Italy. There are many grape plantations there, which specialize in producing red wines. Regarding the style of our wedding, Johannes and I have selected a simple but special presentation. There’s no need for any fancy sophisticated stuff. Many people have persistently asked me whether I will immediately conceive a baby after our wedding. Actually, I’m not marrying for the sake of having a baby. If there’s a baby, I will give birth to it. If there isn’t any then I wouldn’t. In any case, I will leave it to God’s will. Furthermore, my fiancĂ© already has three children (from a previous marriage), it’s really nothing, his children will also attend the wedding; we are a family mahs. The eldest child is already 17-years-old and we are like sisters, getting along really well with each other. After the wedding, we plan to go to Europe for our honeymoon. Around November, we will return to Hong Kong to throw a banquet for our relatives and friends but we have not decided on the style of the banquet.

Since I’m an artist, some have asked me whether Johannes and I will be worried about the situation of “the woman being more superior than the male” happening on us. The answer is no, there won’t be such a case. Johannes’ career is very good; I completely don’t understand the things that he knows then why did I choose him? Because he is very smart lor! I like smart men, best if they are all cleverer than me. When I was little, I looked up to my elder brother. My mom said that the boyfriends I chose all seem to have a little of my elder brother’s shadow. All of them were very intelligent.”

Pressure Due To Cross-Country Relationship

Karen revealed, “At first my fiancĂ©, Johannes, was unclear about the degree of my fame. As he often goes onto the Internet, he went to Google it and everything was made known to him. I believe that he had some kind of pressure but because it’s a cross-continent romance, whether it is a good or bad thing, really depends on the individual’s take on this matter. However, the relationship must be maintained diligently and not just seeing each other day and night and then that’s it and can’t be bothered with anything else. After my wedding, I will take more time to be in Europe and will only accept job offers if I really want to do them.

Picked A Train-Style Wedding Dress

Karen continued, “It’s every woman’s dream to wear a unique wedding dress to get married. I have asked my good friend, Johanna Ho (???) to design a wedding dress for me. My bridesmaid will be Ma Yi Ching (???) who has already married and emigrated to America. Usually for events, I have worn several pretty gowns before. Now that the design for the wedding gown is up to me to decide, I am instead stumped and do not know which design suits me best. However, I think my wedding gown should be a relatively simple design but of course it must be long enough to drag along the floor (train-style design). My fiancĂ© didn’t participate in choosing the design for my wedding gown. He said it was best that he only see it when I make my first appearance in the church. Wonder what reaction he would have upon seeing me in it because I’m choosing the innocent route for this wedding, haha!”

Not Inviting Former Lovers To Wedding Banquet

Karen continued, “Actually I have dated quite a few times, those friends who know me well could probably count them (her ex-boyfriends) all out at one go. Because there is absolutely nothing that everyone do not know about, haha!” [Karen Mok's famous rumored ex-boyfriends include Stephen Fung (???) and Stephen Chow (???).] After having been through so many dating experiences, I have matured and now know what to pay attention to and what to avoid when dating. Different partners each require a different dating approach.

“If you ask me whether my previous romances were a total waste of my youth, I would say no. Of course I don’t feel that it’s a waste since I have ever had it before. I don’t feel that dating necessarily means that one must be married and have kids with your other partner for a romance to be called a fulfilling one. The process is as important too. I actually enjoyed my past romances and do not regret them at all, that was one experience in my life but as for my wedding. However, I wouldn’t invite my former ex-boyfriends to attend it.”

Carina Lau Sighs To Give Edison Chen Another Chance

The day before yesterday, Carina Lau (???) went to Chengdu to attend a promotional event and accepted an interview with the mainland media, explaining her earlier move on Weibo of uploading an intimate “face rubbing against face” photo taken with Edison Chen (???). The said photo incurred rife discussion amongst the netizens, who were worried that Carina’s taking of the photo with Edison would follow in the tragic footsteps of Cecilia Cheung (???) and Nicholas Tse’s (???) marriage and eventually end up in divorce.

Carina expressed that her act of publicly disclosing this photo was to tell Edison that he’s great, remind Edison that he still has friends around him and that anything negative is only those that are hiding in the dark, looking at him. Carina professed that she had seen Edison grow up, saw him experiencing some test in his life and that he (Edison) had already paid his dues. Thus, she hoped that the outside world would give Edison a chance for rebirth.

When mentioned of netizens worrying about her marriage, Carina smiled and said, “I want to thank them. By putting me and Edison together, it makes me feel younger already!” Asked about sources citing that she was rumored together with Edison before and that she was also rumored to be involved in the past sex photos scandal, Carina replied, “Show me those photos; I wish to see them too!”

With regards to rumors that her marriage with actor Tony Leung (???) was on the rocks, Carina expressed that every couple also has their own marital problems but the crux was how to go about solving them. Asked when she would conceive a child for Tony, Carina responded, “We did communicate about this. We will leave it to fate and depend on Heaven’s arrangements. Heaven has already given us aplenty.”

Bosco Wong Does Not Like Big Breasts; Only Loves Myolie Wu

A chain-smoking lame-legged gangster living in the dregs of society continued to live and waited for revenge opportunities. His love-hate relationship with Kate Tsui (???) prompted him to demand repayment of financial debts with her body forever. Trapped in three layers of the worst hell and walking between the black and white of society was “Cripple Co,” portrayed by Bosco Wong (???) in Lives of Omission "????".

Cripple Co’s stand-out characterization did not allow Michael Tse (???) to shine alone. Abandoning his handsome exterior, Bosco kissed Kate Tsui forcibly throughout Lives of Omission. In fact, Bosco appeared to resemble a hungry lion seeking pleasure: biting you, eating you, and destroying you. Watching the show at home, Bosco’s girlfriend, Myolie Wu (???) did not grumble as working in the entertainment industry required trust. Moreover, her boyfriend knew what to do by establishing a “Two People Protection Unit” to guard the Garden of Eden. Aside from goddess, Kate Tsui, Bosco also drew the line with big-eyed, sharp-faced, and large-busted mainland women by stating, ”I don’t like this type!” Whether it was real or not, it was most critical that Myolie Wu listened!

Popular TVB series, Lives of Omission, will be entering its finale this week. Undercover Criminal Investigation Bureau police officer, Laughing Gor (portrayed by Michael Tse) will be facing Cripple Co (Bosco Wong) in a battle of wits. In fact, Cripple Co was a very refreshing and well-fleshed character for Bosco to portray. Cripple Co entered the mafia since his family fell on difficult financial times. Cripple Co’s leg was crippled by a mafia boss and suffered humiliation, even forced to lick another’s shoe sole. Cripple Co’s encounters were worse than the dregs of society. Deeply in love with lawyer, Kate Tsui, Cripple Co committed questionable actions in order to pay for her overseas education. Since Kate’s character betrayed Cripple Co, this sparked his love-hate feelings. Each time Cripple Co encountered Kate’s character, he kissed her forcibly, similar to a hungry tiger bashing a rabbit, which sparked the excited yelps of netizens.

Kate Tsui’s Shocking Tomboyish Behavior

Bosco and Kate’s passionate scenes have become the hot topic among netizens. This was thanks to Lives of Omission Producer, Chong Wai Kin (???). Bosco noted, “Prior to filming, Mr. Chong said he had good things in stall for me. There will be numerous kissing scenes. It was his intention to contrast Kate and my relationship with Laughing Gor and Madam Jo (Fala Chen’s ???) relationship. I used a destructive approach; the more I loved Kate’s character, the more I hated her. I asked Mr. Chong whether he would mind if I acted as a lion biting a lioness? Since Cripple Co entered the triad world to finance Kate’s education, he received his first major shortcoming in life. He loved and hated her very much; it was an atypical love.”

Acting in such a bold manner, of course Bosco had to communicate with Kate first. He recalled, “We kissed on the first day of filming. I told Kate Tsui that she had to be mentally prepared. In the first eight to ten episodes, I will act as a lion biting a lioness: pulling her hair, as well as biting her shoulders, neck, and lips. Kate looked at me and said, ‘I am unafraid of how you will treat me. I am just afraid of your mustache!’ It turned out that the two qualities she hated the most in men, smoking and possessing a mustache, were found in Cripple Co.”

Despite their passionate performance in Lives of Omission, Bosco swore that they did not share any real flames, “I saw her as a man!” When pointed out that Kate Tsui was a goddess among netizens, Bosco chuckled continuously, “Despite putting her beautiful appearance before the audience, her attire when she arrives to work makes you wonder whether she is a guy! I am more pretty than her! When I leave home, I will try to match my outfits. She will wear torn jeans and a haphazard t-shirt. When driving to outdoor filming locations, Kate’s car conditions surprised me. The inside of her car is very messy, with cables and clothes thrown everywhere! It does not resemble the interior of a woman’s car! I am one-hundred times neater than her! Kate gave me the impression that she is very messy. When I saw the inside of her car, I can imagine how her home must look like!” Asked how Bosco filmed his love scenes if he did not love Kate, he said, “I know her well, but there is no love. If I were to ‘fall in love’ [with co-stars] in each series, then I would be very busy!”

Cripple Co’s love scenes were a strong selling point in Lives of Omission. Another selling point was his battle with Laughing Gor. Although Cripple Co was Laughing Gor’s informer initally, he helped mafia boss, Willie (Leung Kin Ping ???) pin down Spicy Ginger (Ben Wong ???), while in fact secretly helping Spicy Ginger to destroy Willie. In other words, Cripple Co’s character triple-crossed his “allies” and the audience was concerned about his true identity. Was he in fact an undercover agent?

Seeking Recognition But Not Awards

Bosco revealed that two endings have been prepared for Lives of Omission. “Cripple Co has a deeply nestled undercover identity. If you want to find out the ending, you have to watch the series yourself! This time, the director must be praised. With the inclusion of certain scenes, an alternate ending will be possible. If the scenes were deleted, a different ending will result. Laughing Gor and I have not watched the final version yet.”

Wayne Lai (???) followed Lives of Omission and praised Bosco for his good performance, citing Bosco as the dark horse candidate for TVB’s Best Actor Award this year. Bosco said, “Many thanks to Wayne for his praise! I am not saying I’m lofty, but I have looked beyond awards; I do not feel much for them. If you were to give me the award, I will be happy. However, if people recognize my performance, I am even happier than receiving an award.” Filming series non-stop, Boso was also a popular newcomer in the film industry. Allegedly, TVB extended his contract to ten years to prevent him from running away.

“No One Asked For Contract Extension”

Bosco said, “Of course, I am happy filming movies. I have been filming series for eight years already. It is exciting to change to a new work environment. Since the film format is new to me, I am getting accustomed to it. Despite rumors that I signed a ten-year TVB contract, this has not happened. No one asked to extend my contract. The frequent rumors made me feel embarrrassed since Ms. Virginia Lok (???) asked me how they started, ‘I haven’t discussed the matter with you, yet someone else has approached you about it?’ I said I did not know and it was a misunderstanding. There are still many years left in my TVB contract; they are not in a hurry to extend the contract.”

Not Attracted By Big Breasts; Loves Myolie Only

Despite Bosco and Kate’s animalistic passion in Lives of Omission, the governance of the world requires one animal to control another. In this case, the tamer of the lion was Myolie Wu, who had Bosco under full rein.

Despite locking lips with Kate Tsui in Lives of Omission, Bosco claimed that he did not report his behavior to Myolie, “Nothing bothers me during filming. Please do not bother and monitor me. She also has her freedom in filming. I will not ask any questions.” Bosco and Myolie have been dating for years and were just short of notifying the world. Boso joked, “It’s necessary to maintain a sense of mystery.” The reporter pointed out that the entire world knew [about their relationship], how was it possible to retain any mystery? Bosco maintained, “A little is still a little. I like how things currently stand.”

The reporter asked whether it was Bosco who was unwilling to publicly acknowledge Myolie’s status as his girlfriend or Myolie’s unwillingness to declare him as her boyfriend. Bosco laughed loudly, “Ha ha, I didn’t say anything! I am accustomed to the handling [of our relationship]. It is natural and without deliberation. If you see it, you see it. There’s no need to raise my hand to make a statement. If I were to get married one day, then I will announce it.” Bosco noted that currently, he had no intention of marriage.

After filming War of In-Laws "??????" in 2005, Bosco and Myolie started dating. In the blink of an eye, six years have passed. It was normal for a man and woman to get married. Bosco laughed continuously, ”My brother, you have been counting the years? I do not feel that it is the right time to get married yet. There are still things that I have not done yet, such as filming [more] movies. I still have to work hard for the future, such as starting a business. Earlier, I gave my mother money to open an optical store in Wan Chai to occupy her time and perhaps earn some money. When I was in my twenties, I considered getting married at 30-years-old. When I turned 30-years-old, I have not thought about marriage. If you were to ask me whether I will get married at 40-years-old, I do not know how to answer you. Let things flow naturally.”

Working in the same circle, rumors within TVB traveled as fast as lightning. Without mutual trust, it was very easy for their feelings to be scattered. Acknowledging the importance of mutual trust, Bosco said, ”We are okay in this aspect. In my current age, I am acting more like myself. In the past, I was more evasive. This has nothing to do with whether I have a girlfriend or not. The other reason is that other people know me more and understand my personality. If you live in my neighborhood, I will give you a car ride. Other people asked if I were afraid of this behavior? What am I afraid of? Of course, I will pick the type of person to enter the car, extending the offer to friends and not arbitrarily ask anyone!”

Countering Rumors

It was incredible how mainland beauties have numerous methods to increase their fame nowadays. Once they approach you, rumors frequently followed. Frequently working in mainland, Bosco gave Myolie a measure of reassurance. ”I have a two-people protection unit. My assistant (Chen Xiaolin ???) is the most vicious. However, rumors circulated that I was romantically linked with her, which gave us a big laugh! My chauffeur is 6-feet tall and can block anything. I am well prepared!” The reporter asked how Bosco would block the mainland beauties who possessed pointed faces, big eyes, and big chests? Bosco answered absolutely, “I do not like this type [of woman]!”

It was easy to make such a statement, but numerous TVB artists fell for such women. Bosco noted, “When passionate feelings take over, it’s just dating. We are not saints. As long as it is decent, then it’s fine. It is normal for a man to get to know a woman. The words used to describe the situation makes it sound like a big deal.”

Him Law’s Rumored Girlfriend Accompanies Him To Filming On His Birthday

Exposed by former love, Theresa Fu (??) for his violence, Him Law (???) marked his 27th birthday yesterday and spent it filming TVB’s new drama, On Call 36 Hours "On Call 36??", with one of his rumored girlfriends, Candy Chang (???). Allegedly, Him, who had a female with him, was apparently in high spirits. However, when the duo spotted reporters, they obviously avoided each other.

Him Law revealed that he will celebrate his birthday by having dinner with his family but without any female companion and that Theresa hasn’t contacted him ever since the scandal broke out. Asked whether Candy would kiss the birthday boy, Candy replied, “I will not be that affectionate lahs!”

Other than that, it was known that Theresa and Him’s management company, Filmko, has yet to assign jobs to Theresa and has not decided how to handle this matter. Whereas Theresa left a message on Weibo yesterday, stating that her mother had ever taught them (her and her two siblings) to step forward bravely regardless of what had happened. However, Theresa has yet to mention about Him Law.

In other news, the two male leads of another drama, Lives of Omission "????", Michael Tse (???) and Bosco Wong (???) were photoshopped into a “bed photo” which was widely circulated by netizens. Upon learning of this, Bosco went on his Weibo to bellow, “I don’t want this!” The outcry startled JJ Jia (???) who immediately posted a reply to his tweet, “Ah Gor! What happened!” The scene truly made one feel like laughing away.

'Lives of Omission' finale already exposed, Producer may alter it

[Warning: Spoilers]

Last week, Lives of Omission TV ratings had an average of 31 points, peaking at 33 points. The finale will air on September 9th, while the film version will start shooting soon after. To boost the momentum, TVB scheduled the cast to watch the finale together with the audience at Emax on the finale night. Since last year's No Regrets, it has already been over half a year since TVB did another finale promotion. Looks like this series is getting quite a bit of attention. Producer Chong Wai Kin cannot say there won't be a sequel after the Lives of Omission film version.

The Lives finale has already been exposed, including Jodie's (Fala Chen) death and Paris (Kate Tsui) betraying Bai Co (Bosco Wong). Producer Chong still hasn't finished editing the finale episode yet, therefore the exposed ending isn't the complete story. He will make the appropriate changes to the ending based on the audience reactions. He expressed that Fala's death in the finale is a mystery because there is an inside story behind the death, it is not known whether or not she really dies. The truth will be disclosed in the film version. As for Bosco and Kate's ending, the decision will be made this week. Producer Chong said Damien Lau's role was initially a villain role, but because everyone's strong dislike, his role was changed. He has confidence that audience will anticipate the ending. Asked if Lives will have a sequel too? He expressed the film version has to start shooting first, just as long as there are public praises and good TV ratings, there is a chance for a sequel.

Interview with Michael Miu: Letting go of the past, living in the present, and looking to the future

He likes people to call him ‘Third Brother’ (??), however it seems that people are already more used to calling him ‘Yeung Hong’ (??) [TN: his character’s name in «Legend of the Condor Heroes»]. No matter how much he tries to break away from the ‘Five Tigers’ era, he is unable to avoid the constant questions and fond memories that many people still have towards that era. Throughout his life and career, he has experienced many peaks and valleys, highs and lows – starting as an obscure actor and eventually making a name for himself in the entertainment industry, he later became a businessman, earning millions in the business sector. Recently, with his return to the entertainment industry, it can be said that he has now come full circle. He is Michael Miu, and this week, his new Mainland series«????»[loosely translated as “Noble Beauty”] has officially premiered on CCTV-8 throughout Mainland China. [TN: The series is considered the Mainland version of TVB’s 2008 series «The Gem of Life»]

Currently 50 years old, the passing of time hasn’t carved too many wrinkles in Michael’s forehead – rather, we see elements of calmness, wisdom, and ease. He doesn’t like to look back on the past, as doing so halts progress forward; instead, he hopes that from this moment on, audiences will get to know him as someone who enjoys life and views filming series as his way of having some ‘playful fun’.

A tragic and unfortunate accident

Not only was the 1983 version of «Legend of the Condor Heroes» one of the earliest HK series to become popular in the Mainland, it was also an important symbol of the success of HK series in that era. In the prime of their careers back then, the stars of the series are no longer the ‘young kids’ they once were – among them, some have enjoyed the fruits of their popularity, some have retired to a more peaceful life, and some still continue to silently toil….but for many of us, the one we are least able to forget is the one who currently resides in Heaven – our ‘Wong Yung’, Barbara Yung. Such a young and delicate life with a promising career, tragically cut short, leaving behind much grief and a feeling of what could have been…

Back then, none of Barbara’s friends ever imagined that she would choose such an extreme path of ending her own life. 26 years later, upon hearing mention of his close friend Barbara, Michael sighs and states: “Originally, she was such a cheerful, vibrant girl. Whenever I filmed with her, I rarely treated her as a girl – she was like a good ‘brother’ of mine! No one ever thought that she would end her life in such manner.” It is widely understood and believed by many people that Barbara committed suicide due to relationship issues, however it less widely known that perhaps she never really intended to leave this world. As Michael himself states: “I believe that she originally wasn’t intending to die, perhaps she just wanted to ‘scare’ a certain person – the unfortunate part is that it went too far and turned into a tragic accident. It’s a huge tragedy and loss – we all miss her very much.”

Admires wife’s unwavering devotion to taking care of their family

In the series «????», Michael plays a rich real estate developer, which coincidentally draws some similarities to his former real life status as the “King of Eyeglasses” [TN: after Michael left the entertainment industry back in the late 80s,/early 90s he went into the lucrative business of selling eyeglasses and earned lots of money.] All the complications of surviving in the business world – including the fickleness of the private sector and the often pressure-filled climb up the corporate ladder – that the characters in the series encounter are all too familiar to someone like Michael, who has toiled in the business sector for over a decade. However, what attracted Michael to the series the most is the unwavering love and devotion that the main male character has towards the main female character – a love and devotion that is very similar to his real life relationship with his wife of more than 20 years, actress Jamie Chik. In an industry where breaking up is just as common as starting a relationship, there were very few people who believed that this couple would truly be able to remain together for so long. Back during that ‘Golden Era’ of TVB, there were many celebrity couples who ‘loved vigorously, but broke up thoroughly’ – looking back now, Michael and Jamie’s relationship is one of the few that has withstood the test of time.

Michael expressed that what he admires most about his wife is her “unwavering devotion to taking care of the family, taking care of the kids, and taking care of me.” He further states: “One of the most important things in a relationship is mutual respect as well as tolerance of each other’s flaws and weaknesses – not only in a relationship between husband and wife, but also between friends and co-workers, it should be this way. Each person has their own unique personalities and it’s important for one to be able to tolerate the other’s flaws in order to become friends; the same concept applies in a marriage – when you take a step back, the sea and the sky become boundless.”

Did everything without complaint

The series «????»explores a wide range of real life issues, such as ‘wealthy second generation’, inflation of real estate prices, etc., -- the most interesting by far is how the series inadvertently brings to light one of today’s ‘unwritten rules’ of the entertainment industry – the fact that young artists are oftentimes required to give up their dreams and even their dignity in order to get to where they want to be in the shortest amount of time. Looking back to the HK entertainment industry of 30 years ago, the young artists of that generation were a lot more naĂŻve and simple-minded – as Michael describes it: “We were just a group of young boys with nothing to our names – no experience, no money, nothing – all we had was a type of stubborn enthusiasm. Everyday, we would put our heads down and throw ourselves into filming series – we didn’t understand anything about fighting for certain privileges, striving for fame, or adhering to unwritten rules.”

In the early 80s, five energetic youth – Tony Leung, Andy Lau, Felix Wong, Michael Miu, and Kent Tong -- caught the eye of certain people at TVB and quickly, the company decided to push their careers forward. In 1983, during one of TVB’s flagship large-scale variety shows«???????», the 5 youth formulated a group called ‘the Five Tiger Generals’ (???) and performed a series of acrobatic stunts on stage – the highlight of the performance was Andy Lau lying on a bench and having a huge slab of rock shattered on his chest [TN: 80s TVB fans will surely remember that famous performance]. Thinking back to those days, Michael fondly states: “Back then, we were grateful that the company gave us the opportunity to perform, so we threw our heart and soul into it, with the goal of doing the best job possible. For instance, there were certain stunts that people thought we would never be able to do, such as backflips, somersaults, and of course, the shattering of the rock – these stunts that were usually undertaken by professional stuntmen, we went and practiced them, then performed for the audiences. At the time, all of us were full of energy and enthusiasm and were happy to have the opportunity to perform for the audiences – we did it willingly and without complaint.”

When people think of Michael Miu, they think of the year 1983

The glory days of the ‘Five Tigers’ era officially ended in 1991 when the action film «??????»[English title«The Tigers»] debuted in theaters – from that moment on, the 5 Tigers went down different career as well as life paths. The film also marked the last time (and only time) that the Five Tigers reunited to collaborate in a movie.

Not surprisingly, when people think of the title of the movie, they can’t help but draw comparisons to real life and wonder whether these 5 Tiger brothers really accumulated years of resentment and grudges toward each other offscreen. Hearing this, Michael laughs and states: “Well, the title of the film does sound like there’s some hidden meaning and I could understand why people would think that way – however, the movie was not a reflection of real life. We never had any conflicts or breaking off of that nature – rather, we ended up going down different paths because our goals were different. That’s the reality of the entertainment industry -- each of us have our own busy careers and may not see each other for years, yet when we do get the chance to meet up, it’s as though we never separated. Even throughout the many years when I went into business, I never lost contact with my friends in the entertainment industry – Eric Tsang, Andy Lau, Alan Tam, etc., we’re all good friends and we never ‘broke off’ any relationships.”

A lot of times, Michael doesn’t feel like talking about those ‘glory days’ of the past: “For a lot of people, when they think of me, they think of 1983 and the Five Tigers – everyone always asks me and sometimes I feel a bit helpless. All of that is in the past, there’s no point dwelling on it anymore. Rather than remembering me as ‘Yeung Hong’, I actually hope that people will call me ‘Third Brother’ when they see me. If everyone started calling me ‘Yeung Hong’ all the time, I don’t know how I should respond – all of that happened in the 80s. I feel that if we’re constantly thinking about the past, it’s as though we are constantly stuck in time and not moving forward. I like living in the present and looking to the future – the way I am now is the ‘true’ me. I hope that audiences know me for who I am now.”

The complexity of the business world is hard to fathom for some

Michael Miu’s nickname ‘Third Brother’ is actually the name of a character he portrayed in the 1988 triad-themed film "Hero of Tomorrow"; after the film debuted, people started calling him ‘Third Brother’ in real life as well. Even after Michael became a successful businessman and a prominent figure in the business world, many people still continued to affectionately call him ‘Third Brother’. Michael often jokes about this and constantly tells people: “As long as you don’t call me ‘Big Brother’, then it’s fine – being called ‘Big Brother’ is a dangerous thing!”

After 1983’s «Legend of the Condor Heroes», Michael starred in numerous series and was heavily promoted by TVB. Yet, when his acting career was at its peak, Michael decided to leave the industry and enter the business world, successfully taking over the biggest eyeglasses chain store in HK and running the business for more than a decade. Due to his success in the business world, it is said that Michael is the HK entertainment industry’s very first multi-millionaire.

Throughout the past 2 decades, there have been various ‘rumors’ about Michael’s decision to leave the entertainment industry at the peak of his career – some say that it was due to Barbara Yung’s death, others say that he was ‘frozen’ by TVB so he had no choice but leave, and still others claim that built up animosity between the 5 Tigers triggered his decision to split. The truth, as Michael reveals, is no where close to what was rumored. In reality, Michael didn’t just brazenly abandon his acting career and go into business – actually, back when he was filming series, he was already helping out with the family business on the side [TN: his family owned an eyeglasses business]. One day, he discovered that there was potential with the family business and at the same time, his acting career was bottlenecked, so he decided to let go of his acting career: “Actually, there was never really a ‘peak’ in my acting career – at the time, I felt that there wasn’t much room for further development in my acting and wasn’t sure how to keep going down that path; I was lost without a sense of direction. Coincidentally, the family eyeglasses business was going quite well, so naturally, I decided to place more focus there and that’s where I remained for the next 17 years. Having the opportunity to be in a completely different environment and encounter completely different experiences was definitely an eye-opener – it helped me to know myself better and later on, when I returned to the entertainment industry, it also helped me improve in terms of my acting.”

It can be said that the business world is similar to a war zone. With all the complexities and struggles that could take place, these 17 years surely have not been easy for Michael: “HK was very much impacted by the financial crisis as well as SARS – also, in the business world, so many things are profit-driven, plus there is the pressure of maintaining the business – the complexity of the business world can be very difficult for some people to fathom. Fortunately, we were able to survive that period and get through each difficult stage in one piece.”

Doesn’t care about being first or second brother

After the SARS crisis, HK’s economy was greatly affected – during this time, Michael decided to sell his business and return to the entertainment industry: “Having a business is a gamble – the competition in the market can get very intense and when reality set in, it made sense to sell the business. Also, at the same time, I was invited to participate in a filming project, plus a lot of people have been asking when I would return to the industry, so I thought, why not? Besides, I discovered that I still had an interest in acting. A lot of people say that the entertainment industry is complicated, but in my opinion, nothing can be more complicated than the business world. After experiencing so many ups and downs in the business world, being an actor is way easier and more relaxing in comparisons.”

But the landscape of today’s entertainment industry in HK has changed and has given rise to a new generation of artists. Amongst the ‘Five Tigers’, Tony Leung and Andy Lau have had the most successful acting careers, with both being multiple ‘Best Actor’ winners and maintaining their immense popularity even today. After being away for so long, how does Michael compare to his Tiger brothers in popularity? Actually, Michael does not care about this: “Returning anew, I realized the entire environment and landscape had changed, but it actually felt very refreshing – I was like a newbie entering the industry for the first time. I didn’t feel any apprehension, in fact, it felt quite casual and unrestrained – who cares about being a first brother or second brother? The important thing is doing your own job well. As actors, we are all friends – if we place too much importance on fame and fortune and put that in front of all else, it would be difficult to get through each day. I won’t put that type of pressure on myself – if all day long, I’m comparing myself to them and lamenting why someone has an award and I don’t, I would never be happy. I would much rather maintain a relaxed, casual attitude and happily enjoy each day!”

Joel Chan takes girlfriend Florinda Ho to see Virgina Lok

Joel Chan and Florinda Ho, the daughter of Macau's Gambling King, are currently in a sweet relationship. Joel will soon be starting Lee Tim Shing's new series. The other night, brought his girlfriend to see TVB's Production and Resource Director Virgina Lok. After dinner, the three were greeted by a large group of reporters and generously took pictures.

Reporters asked if Virgina was discussing Joel's work schedule? Florinda answered on her boyfriend's behalf, she said: "Job interview, it's my job interview!" Based on what Florinda said, reporters pursued the question of if she wanted to play a couple with her boyfriend? Florinda answered instantly: "I'm just saying!" Virgina added with a wide smile: "I'm trying hard to persuade her. (Which means if she is willing to, then you'll accept too?) She's not willing to!" However, when Florinda was asked what type of role she wants to portray? She said happily: "The Great Empress! I want to be the Queen Dowager." This clearly matches her boyfriend's earlier role as the Emperor.

Yesterday reporters contacted both Florinda and Virgina. Virgina was asked if Joel brought her girlfriend to see her because he wanted to ask TVB for their forgiveness? She said TVB basically did not blame Joel for anything, nor did he did anything wrong. Florinda was asked over the phone to confirm once again if she wants to enter the entertainment circle? She denied: "No way! I was joking! (In English)"

The other night at the dinner, Joel formally introduced her girlfriend to Virgina. Virgina expressed that the dinner was just a friend gathering, and they had a great time chatting.

Yoyo Mung Doesn’t Curse and Swear During Work

Recently there was a netizen who self-professed to be an extra on set and left a message on the discussion forum. In his/her message, that netizen highly praised Tavia Yeung (??) for treating temporary actors for snacks during filming and bestowed her with the words “Long Live Your Majesty”????.

However, in contrast, that netizen exposed that another TVB Fadan, who was from a Miss Hong Kong background, saw that the extras were walking slowly and thus made a fuss and screamed obscenities at them. This then incurred rife speculation and the list of “suspects” included Kate Tsui (???), Fala Chen (???), Myolie Wu (???), Charmaine Sheh (???), Linda Chung (???) and even Yoyo Mung (???). That netizen, however, refused to disclose the previous hint.

When told about this, Yoyo Mung responded, “I’m not from a Miss Hong Kong background. It’s okay to speak crudely but as long as it’s just for fun and not during work.”
