Singapore’s Top Korean Pop Artists in 2012!

In a span of 11 days, from the start of (x)clusive‘s 3rd Anniversary celebrations on 20th July until 31st July, (x)clusive garnered thousands of votes from Korean Pop lovers to establish the most favourite KPOP artistes in 2012 in Singapore.

This voting even made it as entertainment headlines on local Chinese daily newspaper Lianhe Wanbao, just two days after it ended! Although the main bulk of votes came from Singapore, there were also hundreds of votes coming in from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, establishing the reach of the local Korean Pop scene.

So who are the Top KPOP artistes in Singapore as voted by the local (and neighbouring) fans? Check out the results below!

Top Rookie Group in Singapore in 2012 goes to…

1st Place – BTOB (30%)
2nd Place – EXO (26%)
3rd Place – B.A.P (20%)

It seems like Cube Entertainment’s artists are well-loved by Singapore as their newest boy group BTOB emerged first in popularity as the Top Rookie Group in 2012! BTOB made Singapore their first ever overseas promotional stop back in May and also performed live at Music Matters Live 2012; for their album promotion fansign at Bugis Junction alone, they attracted a 800-strong crowd who sang and danced along to their debut track “Insane”. Previously (x)clusive also had an exclusive email interview with BTOB as well, check it out over here. BTOB has been off the radar since the release of their Asia Edition album with the new track “Irresistable Lips”, leaving fans intrigued about their next comeback.

SM Entertainment’s brand-new sensation EXO has been making waves in the industry – split into two promotional units K and M, the two teams of 6 are to promote the same song and album in Korea and China respectively. Before debut, fans faced an onslaught of dance and song teasers, but the talents showcased by EXO after debut won the love of many and the numbers have been growing since. Their debut track “MAMA” talks about the deterioration of communication in the modern society, and also featured clean yet strong dance moves, with a heavy “cult” concept to match. EXO successfully completed promotions in Thailand a few days ago and will be focusing on their upcoming album release thereafter.

One of the strongest rookie group debuts this year includes boy group B.A.P from TS Entertainment. Their trademark whistling hiphop based music and stomping dance breaks sets them apart – due to their tricky dance choreography, there has been many reports of the members injuring themselves at practice. B.A.P had their first appearance in Singapore as guests at labelmate Secret‘s 1st Fanmeeting in Singapore, receiving positive response and many requests for them to hold their solo showcase in Singapore the next time. Through MTV’s “B.A.P Diary” featuring B.A.P (Episode 2), the boys seemed to love Singapore as much as the fans’ love for them. With their new release “No Mercy”, B.A.P is currently busy with album promotions in Korea.

Steven Ma Uses Bugs Zapper as Badminton Racket

Steven Ma has always loved sports, especially badminton. His enthusiasm for badminton is so 'feverish' that he would not forgo any available spare time playing badminton even when at Hengdian shooting a series. (May-July). In between shooting scenes, he would use this free time to practice badminton strokes with an electric bugs zapper. With the bugs zapper in his hand, he had a game going, now 'killing the shuttlecock', now 'backhanding the shuttlecock', thoroughly enjoying his badminton fix. What's so amusing is that his immersion in his pretend game was so total, it incurred other workers' snickers at seeing him so, but ignoring all, Steven continued to do his own thing.

When showed this set of photos as proof, Steven did not mind at all, and even admitted his guilt with a smile:

"People who know me know that I like to play badminton. Whenever I've free time I'll drag my friends to play badminton with me. During the time in Hengdian, the days had turned hot and humid so lots of mosquitoes and flies so I would bring the bugs zapper everywhere with me. Besides using it to zap the bugs, in between shooting scenes, I could use it to mimic badminton strokes and moves. People thought I had gone mad. Actually, waiting to shoot my scene, I was just looking for some self-entertainment; this is what is called "using a product to the max."

When the talk turns to Olympics, Steven was full of enthusiasm: "Besides studying the script, and preparing the September new series, I also watch my most beloved badminton games. I didn't even have time to sleep. Need to support both national and Hong Kong teams ma. Women's doubles took the gold, women's singles both gold and silver, men's singles, Lin Dan, took the gold. And also there are the women's volleyball, and table tennis to watch. But watching the Olympics games makes my "hands itched", so when have the time I'll immediately called up friends to play badminton".

As a badminton buff, he is naturally attentive to badminton news, among them is the disqualification of the Chinese women's doubles team of Wang Xiao Li and Yu Yang from Olympics. Steven feels that is very unfortunate: "I know these two athletes. We are friends. In spirit, I still support them, and hope that they will not quit badminton, but will continue to play and get even better results in the future. Actually, through the years I've gotten know many mainland and Hong Kong athletes and know that they work really hard, and that they have expended much blood, sweat, tears and physical efforts and spirit into their sports. That's why all along I always respect and love them, and hope that every one of them, regardless medaling or not, so long he/she has done his/her best, that's enough. Frankly, having watched Olympics all these years, regardless the Olympians medaled or not, in my heart, they are all awesome. But what I want to emphasize most is this: medaling or not is not important because what they have given out (tn: of themselves and to their sport) is already the biggest harvest."

Those who have played badminton with Steven know that his techniques are not bad. This reporter heard in September Hong Kong badminton platform has an upcoming big event:

"Chinese Badminton Open competition ma; already sign up. This is my first time participating in an open competition. But don't know if the date will clash with my work schedule or not; hopefully it won't. If schedules clashed then I can't do it. So feeling a bit nervous here. Actually in recent years I've been playing with former Hong Kong national team members and Hong Kong coach(es), and they practise continually with me to help me improve my game. Participating in competition, win or not, not that important; most important is the participation itself, and that the whole competition process can help improve one's progress; that, will give me the most satisfaction."

Accompany my win are hundreds of thousands people; accompany my loss, how many are there?.

*********************

8/8/2012 02:06 - re: Liu Xiang's negative press
At this moment, feelings stirred
Win or lose, not the most weighty
What I see is their effort
Post a comment, who doesn't know how?
One comment can erase all blood and sweat
One comment can negate all tears and effort
Using a simple comment
To void someone's whole life
Don't say again you're the kind of person who call it as you see it.
Let me ask, exactly what kind of person are you?
Put yourself in someone else shoes
Feel that someone's emotion
So simple, can't you?
I've all along learning to be more tolerant
Won't you? Can't you?

No athletes wouldn't want to put in their best effort.
Empathize, understand, tolerant and cherish
is my attitude towards them
Their blood, sweat, tears and pressure
I do not have that personal painful experience
But empathy tells me
I should try to understand
National athletes
No matter what
I love you all.

8/6/2012 22:35 re-Gymnastics, Li Yi Bing - 'lord of the rings'
Calm and collected, have bearing and grace, such demeanor truly the commander general of all generals. Good for you, Chen YiBing. Don't be sad; you made me proud.

8/1/ 2012 - re disqualified badminton duo Wang Xiao Lin and Yu Yang
Have known many athletes and some have even become good friends. The pressure and bitterness they carried through the years, how many people actually understand. From rational angle, I dare not comment but from emotional angle I'll say I still love you all, friends, I love you all.

8/1 1:48: Women team, don't be upset, you did your best. Your performance was awesome! Don't cry! I'm proud of you! National sports team members, even without medaling I'm still very proud of you all. Those with medals are heroes; those without medals are also heroes because your sweat and tears and your pressure, I see them all. National sports team members, win or lose, I love you all, regardless.

7/31 21:45 On the sports arena, to get a medal, so difficult; blood, sweat, not known to outsiders; from a different angle, likewise, the journey of life is akin to Olympics arena. Maybe the goals are different but the attitude is the same. The only thing to do is to strive hard. You add oil, I add oil; medal, up to heaven ba!

Fiona Sit joins Paco Wong's company for HK$6million, 'sells herself' to rescue sick father

Warner Music brought Fiona Sit to fame and after 8 years of collaboration, there was hope that she would renew her contract. To show their sincerity, Warner made special arrangements to hold a Hong Kong Coliseum concert for Fiona, but last month there was a sudden change in the situation. It was rumored Fiona no longer wants to renew her contract. Yesterday the rumor said Ella Koon signed a 3 year contract with Warner for HK$6 million, which is much lower than the HK$10 million that Fiona asked for. To such extent, Fiona decided to go with Paco Wong's company.

It was understood, Fiona's decision to leave Warner had nothing to do with Ella joining the company. Actually, Fiona is just a filial daughter willing to 'sell herself' to support her family. According to Fiona's close friend, she reveals: "Fiona is suffering great financial pressure. She's an only child. She's only one person trying to support herself as well as her divorced parents and has three homes to pay off. To make matters more difficult, she miserably has to fork out another large sum of money to hire a good doctor for her father, who was diagnosed with heart disease last year. To support her family, money is definitely Fiona's first priority." Fiona's close friend also did her justice, she expressed Fiona has a deep relationship with Warner and leaving the company was because she had no other choice. People that don't know her story, will say she's a traitor and that is just unfair to Fiona.

Earlier when Fiona's contract with Warner expired, many companies approached her, but Paco Wong's company Sun Entertainment Culture Limited had the most sincerity and best contract terms. According to reliable sources, Paco was willing to sign Fiona into his company for HK$6 million, give her generous contract terms and the 'Big Sister' status. Another attractive aspect was Paco will be breaking new grounds into the film scene, so she can expand her career.

Paco confirmed yesterday: "The first step in the development has been taken, the chances of successfully signing the contract is high." Fiona revealed on Eileen Cha's radio interview: "My Uncle has helped me from my debut until now. He will help me discuss it. (Did you ask Khalil Fong for advice?) Yes, but I made the final decision." When asked about the traitor accusations? She expressed: "The industry is small, there won't be such thing happening." When speaking of her colleagues in which she had work with for 8 years, she started sobbing and said she didn't know about Ella Koon joining Warner. She hopes Warner can sign more good singers.

Janet Chow risks miscarriage, asks Chris Lai to carry her

Yesterday Wayne Lai, Kent Cheng, Kristal Tin, Janet Chow, Chris Lai, Elaine Yiu, Pierre Ngo and Natalie Tong appeared in their ancient costumes for the promotion of TVB new series King Maker. Lead actors Wayne and Kent put in the most effort into the promotion. Aside from arm wrestling each other, the two played tug-a-war with Kristal and Elaine. Everyone was worried about the pregnant Janet Chow, although Chris took good care of her, she saw the cast having so much fun playing and she wanted to join too, so she asked Chris to carry her. Wonder if her husband Timmy Hung will freak out when he sees that.

Yesterday Janet's growing belly was much more visible than her last public appearance. She said: "My stomach is growing fast. Friends have told me not to eat too much. Timmy is currently out working, as his wife, I don't want him to worry. Last night, I had dinner at Charmaine Sheh's house with a large group of friends. I chatted with Annie Man about our pregnancy experiences and even went shopping online for baby products. (Does Charmaine envy you?) I don't know, but I did urge her to start dating soon, but I won't introduce any guys to her because it feels awkward." Janet reveals her expected due date is February 5, 2013. She already chose the date to get a C-section, but if she's due earlier, she will go for a natural birth.

As the cast for King Makers is similar to The Greatness of a Hero? Wayne said: "Because there is a shortage of artists at TVB, but the story is different. This time Kent and I will have a lot of battle of wits scenes. He's the evil one, and I'm the good guy. (Film King challenges TV King?) Of course, the co-star is very important. Kent is very talented."

Joey Yung teaches Hu Ge to play dumb

The Joey Yung Cho Yi starred DIVA last night held its premiere. She with Chapman To Man Jat, Hu Ge, Mag Lam Yun Tung and Carlos Chan Ka Lok attended. Joey's boyfriend Wilfred Lau Ho Lung was also a part of the film but has been absent from all promotions, seemingly to avoid sharing the stage with Joey. Joey said that she did not mind who was standing next to her.

Hu Ge said that this production was not fun enough. Did he think his role was too small? He denied that, did he want to lengthen his intimate scene with Joey? He said, "Intimacy was enough, with additional scenes I am afraid that I would fall for her." Speaking of Joey and Lau Ho Lung's romance, Hu Ge admitted that he had no idea and joked that he would ask her when he had a chance. Later when he posed for photos with Joey, he truly asked Joey, "I have a question to ask you." Joey immediately winked at Hu Ge in a hilarious manner.

Joey was dressed in black. Did Lau Ho Lung look it over? She said, "No need!" As for Hu Ge's fear of falling for her, Joey said that he was very handsome. Speaking of Hu Ge not knowing about her romance, Joey joked, "I told him to say I don't know to everything." Why did she not telling others? She asked reporters, "Why should I? (Share the joy!) Do we need to?" Why was Si Hing missing? Joey pointed out that he was working. If the company arranged for them to promote together, would she accept that? Joey said, "I will worry about it when it happens. (Are you avoiding to share the stage?) No."

Nicholas Tse Ting Fung yesterday came in support. When asked whether he and Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi got back together, he said, "No." Yet he admitted that they spent a day together as a family. As for the chance of getting back together, Ting Fung immediately shook his head. Yesterday an internet search of Albert Yeung Sau Sing's information mentioned his ties with the underworld. Yeung Sau Sing said that he has already given the matter to the lawyers to handle.

Since the launch of her album last week, it has already climbed up to first place on HMV's 'Asian Album Top Sales Chart'. Fala happily said: "There were several thousand copies in the first batch, never thought the album sales would do this well. At some CD stores, it was sold out. After all, there is some pressure for artist-turned-singers."

Fala is currently under Rising Star Music, whose parent company is Stars Shine. Earlier Stars Shine's boss Herman Ho admitted Fala's contract is expiring soon and expressed they only wanted to help Fala fulfill her dream of releasing her own album. After her contract expires, she'll get back to acting and won't be singing anymore. Herman also expressed for the next half year, Stars Shine, will focus on promoting their favorites Linda Chung and Joyce Cheng. So, does that mean Fala is left out? Herman explained: "Fala is shooting a series, and can't make time to do promotions, but Linda Chung has time. (Jinny Ng is going to take over and be the Big Sister?) What is Big Sister?"

Yesterday, Fala denied that she's an 'One Album Singer', she said: "I am currently busy shooting Triumph in the Skies II, but I can still handle both singing and acting." Fala denied that she's in disagreement with Herman Ho because TVB is still her management, so she won't be contracted with a single record company for long, but instead TVB contracts her out to the record companies. She said: "I still have one or two months left in the contract. As for my record company for next year, TVB will handle it. I'm definitely going to continue singing."

When speaking of Triumph in the Skies II, her co-stars Myolie Wu and Kenneth Ma recently had dating rumors, but Fala expressed they haven't joined the crew yet, so she's not sure.

Hu Ge explained, "My manager and make up artists are fuller, when they walked on either side of me I felt like a hot dog." Ah Jat said, "If your manager is a hot dog, then I am like the fast food shop fried chicken leg. My manager is that vat of hot grease because she would 'fry' me nonstop." Joey added, "Actually Hu Ge's manager should be ketchup, because if someone wanted to bite Hu Ge, his manager would definitely spray him right away." Joey also said that she and her manager were frenemies as they often argued over matters large and small, but in the end they would settle them in peace.

The host also asked the actors to say something touching to their managers. Ah Jat said, "I really have to thank Mani because she signed me when I was at my poorest." Finally the host asked the actors to make their poster poses for photos, and Hu Ge embraced Joey.

Kenneth Ma won't be a sinner blocking Myolie Wu & Bosco Wong from reconciling

(Earlier Kenneth had a scene where he ran on the streets with his boxers. [Source Apple Daily])

On the 13th day since Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong announced their break up, ending their 8 year relationship, more and more rumors are circulating. Following the public's speculation that Bosco had a third party, there were rumors that Myolie was strongly pursued by Taiwanese actor "TTV's Big Brother" Eric Huang. Yesterday it was rumored that TVB's 'good deal #2' (seun poon), Kenneth Ma, successfully won Myolie's heart after shooting new series Seasons of Love with her. However, Kenneth was afraid he'll become a sinner blocking Myolie and Bosco from reconciling, so yesterday he quickly explained: "Please don't misunderstand, I don't dare to pursue Myolie."

Myolie and Kenneth play a couple in the new series Seasons of Love, the two have intimate scenes as well as a CPR scene. It was said 7 years ago when they collaborated in To Grow With Love, Kenneth was already pursuing Myolie, but it wasn't until Seasons of Love that he was successful. Yesterday Kenneth was shooting an outdoor scene for the new series and when asked about his successful pursuit of Myolie? He denied several times. He said: "Of course I can't pursue Myolie, don't speak nonsense. I'm afraid I might become a sinner. I know many fans want Myolie and Bosco to get back together, I don't want to get in between them. I'm afraid fans will scold me!" When asked if he expects the two to get back together? Kenneth said: "The most important is their happiness, outsiders should not comment too much."

Kenneth expressed everyone is worried about Myolie and now that she's single again, many are impatient for her. However, we should all just let her calm down and take things slowly, he said: "Perhaps because we're a couple in Seasons of Love that caused these imaginations that we're actually together." Kenneth expressed the intimate photos that the magazine published were part of the series. He also does not have a Weibo account, so there is no way he could have 'transferred love' through Weibo. When asked if he'll start pursuing later? Kenneth said: "No! Please don't misunderstand, I don't dare to pursue her, Myolie is too good!"

It was said earlier when Myolie went with Kenneth and Ruco Chan to Singapore for promotions, they were already playing like there was no one around. Kenneth said: "The three of us had a great time. I learned of Myolie and Bosco's break up the same time as the public, Myolie appears professional during shooting and has not let her emotions affect her." Kenneth laughed: "I won't avoid collaborating with Myolie again just because of these rumors. We are also in Triumph in the Skies II, but we're not a couple. When the time comes, perhaps there will be new rumors that I'm pursuing Elena Kong!" Regarding to the rumor that he only pursues the middle-aged women? Kenneth expressed he just laughed it off and treats it as promotion for the series.

Yesterday Myolie was shooting the last scene for Seasons of Love and was asked about the rumor with Kenneth. She laughed: "I don't feel Kenneth is trying to pursue me at all. We are colleagues, the rumor is just too funny." She praised Kenneth's good qualities, but she does not want turn the relationship into such a complicated one. She said it's best to think of all these rumors as little stories. "I am concentrated on my work. I can still be very happy now that I'm single again."

Surrounded by Mainland girls, Kevin Cheng: Money is More Important; To Open a Production Studio

TVB Siu Sangs Raymond Lam, Bosco Wong and Ron Ng have recently been involved with Mainland actresses, from last year until this year, 'Law Ba' Kevin Cheng has been shooting in Mainland for 10 months straight. Also, after Startling By Each Step becoming a major hit, Kevin is worth a lot more and became TVB's highest earning artist. The single Kevin was praised by the Mainland media that he's a 'seun poon' (good deal), its basically unbelievable that no girl would want him.

Refuse to be Third Party

Many people say Mainland girls are hard to resist, therefore many male artists fall for them. In the many months Kevin has been working in Mainland, he has seen a lot of beauties around, but has he been enticed before? "Don't make it sound that serious, but if your talking about having feelings and interests, if I say no, then I would be lying to you. However I am that type that if I don't have any feelings or interest, then I won't give her the wrong signal. Shouldn't be wasting their time or my time. Also, the actresses that I worked with earlier, the majority them already had boyfriends. Those with boyfriends are really not to be messed with, I don't like to be involved with such complicated relationships. I'm not young anymore, at this age, I want to find a wife."

Will Kevin avoid dating Mainland girls? Kevin said: "Actually the only difference between Mainland and HK girls is the language, both are still Chinese. I really don't know whether my future wife will be a foreigner, someone from Hong Kong or Mainland. Don't write about me only wanting to be with certain people, I didn't set too many requirements, as long as there is fate and we can click. If I like her, then I don't care what others think."

About his past rumors, Charmaine Sheh, was rumored with him for the longest and they were even rumored to have gotten back together. Kevin said: "Charmaine and I are friends, but I really don't dare to meet with her. We could just be having a simple meal together, but when we get photographed, there are huge headlines. To avoid trouble, we don't meet up at all." Isn't that a pity? She could have been your true love? "Aiya! I haven't rested for 19 months straight, busy to death, just leave it then."

To Open a Studio Next Year

Shooting in Mainland, aside from the high pay, it has also given Kevin an opportunity to start another type of business. Next year, he plans to open his own studio and start shooting his own TV series. Kevin: "This is true. I hope this can happen next year. Opening a studio, meaning I'm going to produce my own TV series. I have already started looking for good scripts, a good series must have a good script. Or perhaps I'll buy the copyrights to a few best-selling novels and make an adaptation. If the role is suitable for me, I can also do the acting as well. I'm currently saving up. What I want to shoot the most is a war series, like the Zhang Xueliang legend. However, producing a series will require a lot of capital, so that definitely won't be my first series to produce, the first series should be something small and also must be a joint investment. That's how I can learn." Continuously shooting several Mainland dramas, Kevin was able to see which are the best directors, what is the best lighting and the most important is to know how to control the budget. "Yes, the more I shoot, the more information I gather. I can see which artists are good, what crews are outstanding and which are honest productions. At work, there are lot of inspirations."
