Stephen Chan's last dinner with TVB execs; Excerpts of university lecture and radio interview

TVB General Manager Stephen Chan will officially be resigning from his position at the end of this month (February 29th). The day before yesterday, TVB arranged a farewell dinner for him at a hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui East -- each member of management chipped in 500 HKD a piece to arrange a 5 table dinner for him. Most of the TVB executives were in attendance at the dinner, including newly promoted Deputy Chairman Norman Leung, Head of Production Catherine Tsang, Head of External Affairs Tsang Sing Ming, as well as the two execs who were rumored to be on bad terms with Stephen -- General Manager Mark Lee and Head of Production & Resources Virginia Lok. Even though Stephen Chan has stated in Media interviews that he has not decided on his future career path yet, Norman Leung revealed at the dinner that Stephen has promised that within the next 2 years, he will not work for any other multi-media company.

Looking relaxed and well-rested from having the last few months off, Stephen Chan arrived at the dinner dressed casually, smiling and happily greeting the waiting reporters. Asked about his feelings on leaving TVB, he stated: “In the 30 years that I’ve been working, 18 of those years were for TVB, so of course I will have sentimental feelings, but at the same time, I also feel excited about embracing a new way of life – the feelings are a little bit contradictory, but definitely not sad. There are many colleagues and people I’ve collaborated with whom I will miss dearly – even though at times, our opinions on issues differed, but our ultimate goal was the same.”

In early March, Stephen will participate in Pastor Lam Yi Lok’s stand-up comedy show, where he will perform 3 hymns, then after that he is planning to continue his studying abroad in Europe -- after that is completed, then he will consider future career direction.

Ever since the news of Stephen Chan’s resignation became public, there have been endless rumors of various media companies trying to recruit him to join their companies – in fact, he has admitted himself that throughout this time, he has received invitations from various organizations. Facing the departure of one of his GMs, deputy chairman Norman Leung expressed that Stephen will definitely be missed: “He was one of my most capable workers – his departure will definitely be TVB’s loss, however we respect his decision. Stephen did tell me that within the next 2 years, he won’t accept any job offers from other multi-media companies and I respect his promise.” Mr. Leung also expressed that he has not found a replacement for Stephen’s GM position yet.

Excerpts from his lecture at Hong Kong Baptist University and interview with Eileen Cha

What are Stephen Chan’s feelings towards leaving TVB? Working at the company for 18 years, does he have any experiences and lessons he can share with others? Stephen did not say very much at the farewell dinner day before yesterday – however, earlier on, during a lecture at Hong Kong Baptist University as well as an interview with radio host (and one of our [ND Daily’s] columnists] Eileen Cha, he had actually said a lot…..

.--- While introducing TVB’s history to students at HK Baptist University, Stephen Chan took the opportunity to show his ‘fondness’ toward his ‘maternal home’:

“Let’s pretend that I make a salary of $6 – if another television station were to pay me $10 but TVB only pays me $6.50, I would still choose to stay at TVB.”

.--- When a student asked him how he maintains his youthful appearance, Stephen went into a discourse about life principles (a discourse that appeared to have ‘hidden meaning’):

“In addition to the basic tenants of rising and going to bed early as well as not drinking or smoking, the most important thing is to maintain a pleasant state of mind when faced with other people’s idle gossip about you. In fact, there is no harm in taking the ‘ostrich approach’ [TN: meaning ‘bury one’s head in the sand’] – no need to take things too much to heart.”

.--- During the lecture at the university as well as his subsequent interview with Eileen Cha, Stephen expressed that he regretted hosting the program«Be My Guest»:

“If at that time I had thought things through more clearly, I would not have chosen to host the 159 episode «Be My Guest»…. I never thought that the exposure in front of the camera would cause me to completely lose my privacy.”

.--- In addition to providing an ‘explanation’ for his decisions, Stephen also shared his experience working at TVB with the students at the university:

“Earlier, due to the dispute with the Big 5 record companies, the ratings for «Jade Solid Gold»were very low. At one point, we were thinking about giving up on the program, but then we had to consider that it’s necessary for a television station to have a music program – it was sort of like ‘chicken ribs’ [TN: meaning ‘something of little worth or value that one is reluctant to give up’]. We already did not have too much funding invested in sports-related programs, so we definitely couldn’t give up music programs too!”

.--- During his interview with Eileen Cha, Stephen was asked whether going through the whole corruption scandal experience has caused him to be more ‘fearful’, to which he ‘firmly’ responded:

“Facing this world alone by myself, there isn’t much to be afraid of! The only thing I’m ‘scared’ of is cockroaches, especially flying cockroaches…truly very scared!”

Andy Lau reduces workload to welcome Dragon Baby

Andy Lau Tak Wa and Deanie Ip Tak Han earlier appeared on a Cable Entertainment News interview. The host congratulated Lau Tak Wa on his impending fatherhood. Wa Jai could not hide his excitement as he said, "I will try my best to welcome the new life and the new identity." In the future Wa Jai will reduce his workload to make more time to take care of his family. Sister Deanie said that she very much looked forward to "holding a grandchild". She even bet Lau Tak Wa that he definitely will be a father who will spoil the child. As for whether she would like a granddaughter or a grandson, Sister Deanie sai that the most important was for the child to be healthy.

Speaking of initially investing in A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s production, Wa Jai said that at first he purely planned to invest to support Ann Hui On wa. Since BOAT PEOPLE (TAU BUN NO HOI) to now Hui On Wa singlehandedly created the current him. After reading the script, he already thought that they should ask Sister Deanie to play the title character but he did not make the suggestion in order not to hinder the director's decision. He never expected Hui On Wa to truly suggest Sister Deanie. When she did he offered to play Roger. He joked that at the time he pretended to be very "humble" and asked whether the director would mind if he played Roger. Lau Tak Wa also praised Sister Deanie as very hard work, very eager to learn and very focused on her work. For example when she wanted to learn to tap dance she just went and learned it. Yet she thought that now she still was not good enough. Earlier she enrolled in another class. However Sister Deanie humbly said that she was "a jack of all trades but a master at none."

War and Beauty II storyline leaked: Sheren Tang & Alice Chan fights for Moses Chan

Last year TVB aired reruns of 2003 popular drama War and Beauty in the late evening and still got decent reception. It was then TVB decided to get the original cast back to shoot the sequel to serve as this year's TVB Anniversary series.

War and Beauty II will start shooting next week. Since the series is seen as TVB's secret weapon, the cast and crew have strongly declined to reveal anything. Reporters have been actively trying to obtain WABII's storyline via various channels. It was discovered that the sequel is completely unrelated to the first series. This time, Sheren Tang plays a concubine that gets thrown in the Cold Harem, while Moses is a performer in Chinese opera. He'll be in a subtle love triangle with Sheren and Alice Chan.

Gigi Lai married and retired from the industry, Charmaine Sheh and Maggie Cheung left TVB. It appears that the strive to get the four War and Beauty FaDans back for the sequel will no longer happen. As for the group of second line actresses, such as Nancy Wu and Selena Li, they 'glared' at WABII (uninterested), therefore producer Jonathan Chik had to invite his favorite Ada Choi back and Christine Ng, who had been on hiatus for 2 years to focus on her beauty salon business. Alice Chan, who had just signed with TVB, is fortunate to be able to battle Sheren.

Reporters showed initiative in obtaining the WABII storyline. In the last series, many people died in the end. Initially Sheren's role as Yue Fei had the chance to leave the palace, but she decided to stay behind to continue the battle with the Empress. As for the sequel, there will be an explanation of why Sheren was banished to the Cold Harem. She tries to overcome boredom in the Cold Harem and went to watch Chinese opera, where she then met the lead performer Moses Chan.

Meanwhile, Moses and the FaDan Alice Chan are childhood friends and had the romantic feelings long ago. To get closer to Moses, Sheren asked Moses to teach her acting and conveniently reduce the time Moses sees Alice at the same time. Christine Ng, plays Sheren's younger sister, who had always been a vicious person. She made an excuse to build Sheren and Moses' romance, then Sheren won't be able to make a comeback in the Harem, so she asked someone to go murder Alice. The Yue Fei this time has a rather weak personality in the beginning, but in the middle when she learned how her sister plotted against her, she started turning evil in order to protect herself.

Last year in the WABII sales presentation clip, Sheren and Ada Choi had a brokeback bed and kiss scene. It was understood that the actual version of WABII will retain the brokeback element, but it was only be explained through the dialogue.

Producer Jonathan Chik saved the role for Ada, she will be playing the 'GuGu', that is she'll be the boss of the palace maids. She is responsible for serving Sheren, so she knew about Sheren and Christine's secret. Aside from Sheren and the concubines fighting for power, the palace maids are also in a competition. In the series, Ada will be getting framed constantly by Tracy Ip. However, in the middle of the story, Ada will start unfolding a chain of intense scenes with Christine because they will be fighting over court warden Kenny Wong.

There aren't many restrictions, so they can all really use their imaginations."

Earlier Felix criticized TVB as 'Totally Very Bad', he was asked how he would described his new company? He spoke in HK-style English: "Can Do Independence. Mr. Wong (Ricky Wong) gives us a lot of room to develop and we can work independently too." Asked if he will invite his good brother Michael Miu over too? He said: "I think they already discussed before. Each individual has their own ambitions, he still has a contract with TVB. He said himself he wants to observe more first."

Dou Xiao enjoys some tenderness in Janice Man's Lap

The star of Zhang Yimou's UNDER THE HAWTHORN TREE, Mou Guy Dou Xiao in the film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) worked for the first time with Janice Man Wing Shan, who was born in the same month of the same year as him, and played a couple. Although they just met, they were as intimate as a young couple. Dou Xiao even lay on Man Wing Shan's legs without any care and melted away in joy, much to the envy of others.

They in the film developed a tragic love story. Although they met for the first time, they did their homework and saw the other's films in order to understand each other more. The intense shoot schedule was no match for them. Even in an ice cream scene, Dou Xiao even lay in JM's lap and enjoyed the tenderness. However off camera Dou Xiao could not be more embarrassed; because the director wanted them on the sun scorched roof to eat the melting ice cream while being romantic in the heat for two hours. They even had to wear heavy coats. The worst was the mischievous JM often dripped the melting sugar cone on his face.

Dou Xiao however did not mind at all. JM described Dou Xiao as a big kid so she dripped the ice cream on his face with ease. She said, "Although we were only together for one day, we already had something in common. We talked about cars. He even liked the same brand and type of car as I do. After being born in the same month of the same year, we have another coincidence."

Bowie Lam’s new drama “Strangers 6″ broadcast in Japan

Bowie Lam, Bernice Liu, Peter Cheung, Eugena Lau, Jeanie Lee, and Maria Cordero attended a luncheon commemorating the 23rd anniversary of a magazine. Due to his relatively free schedule without current filming projects, Bowie Lam gained weight and will need to exercise more.

Bowie’s new drama, Strangers 6 , featuring Toshiaki Karasawa , Oh Ji Ho, and Liu Xuan, was currently being broadcast in Japan. The Korean-Chinese-Japanese collaborative drama centered around a group of six experts from the police forces of Korea, China, and Japan whose secret mission was to protect the countries’ economic future. Toshiaki Karasawa was originally scheduled to travel to Hong Kong at the end of February to promote Strangers 6, in which Bowie made plans to take him out to dinner. Unfortunately, Toshiaki had to postpone his original travel plans to Hong Kong until the drama was broadcast locally. Bowie indicated that he did not know when the drama will be broadcast in Hong Kong.

Bowie also disclosed that he received a filming proposal from mainland China regarding spies. There was a high chance that Bowie will accept the filming offer, but he did not know who his costars will be. Bowie suggested casting Flora Chan (???), as numerous netizens wanted them to star in Untraceable Evidence 3 . When it was pointed out that numerous TVB veteran actors were recruited by the new television stations in Hong Kong, Bowie indicated that he was not clear about the situation.

While tabloid reports claimed that Bernice Liu had already signed with City Telecom (CTI), she clarfied that was not the case. Bernice had signed with a management company, allowing her to collaborate with any television station. The construction of Ricky Wong’s (???) CTI production facilities will take place in Tseung Kwan O shortly. If CTI were to invite Bernice to appear at the event, she was glad to attend. When it was pointed out that TVB was petty, Bernice said that TVB was not petty to such a degree.

Former TVB artists, Eugena Lau and Peter Cheung, have been pursuing the true cause of their son’s death for the last 7 years with the Hong Kong Medical Council. Although Peter’s lawyer had issued numerous letters to the medical authority, the results were still under investigation. Peter intended to follow up with complaint experts.

Miriam Yeung insists on promoting Love In The Buff

The 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival yesterday officially announced Miriam Yeung Chin Wa as its ambassador again. She and Shawn Yue Man Lok starred in the Pang Ho Cheung directed new film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) will be the opening film and the closing film will be the Berlin Film Festival Best Cinematography Silver Bear Prize winner WHITE DEER PLAIN. Director Peter Chan Ho Sun will be this year's Filmmaker in Focus.

Chin Wa, Ah Lok and Pang Ho Cheung yesterday attended the press conference in Tsim Sha Tsui. Peter Lam Kin Ngok and Hong Kong International Film Festival Association chair Wong Ying Wai also attended.

Chin Wa revealed that she was over six months pregnant and so far she has gained 16 to 17 pounds. Her husband Real Ting Chi Ko was no longer as "follow around hubby" but now she started to have sciatic nerve pain. Thus she had difficulty going out with friends. After attending tomorrow's event, the film opening ceremony and LOVE IN THE BUFF premiere she will officially rest. Since the LOVE production was very tough, she will persist no matter what.

Chin Wa said that lately she has been watching movies at home. She did not have any taboo even with the kiss scene in LOVE IN THE BUFF because her child in the future will know her mother was an actor. Chin Wa said, "At most I would cover my legs if anything. I am even watching the television series THE HIPPOCRATIC CRUSH (ON CALL 36 SIU SI) and am reminded of when I was a nurse. It's pretty realistic, Ma Kwok Ming performs decently. Right now I am like a canary! (Have you pretend to roll around in bed?) I don't sleep well, on the left I crush my heart and on the right my hip hurts. The company doesn't dare to arrange too much work for me out of fear that I would doze off."

Lok Jai joked that promoting with Chin Wa was rather stressful because he was very worried that she would constantly go to the bathroom, vomit from the pregnancy or even giving birth on the spot. Has Mr. Ting asked him to take care of her more? Lok Jai said that went without saying. He and the director would take care of her. Seeing Chin Wa overflowing with happiness, has he been tempting to start his own family?

Lok Jai said, "No, who can be as happy as she is. I really want her to spare me some. She doesn't need peach blossom, every time you mention I sigh. When you use up all the peach blossom you wither. (Have you hidden any and not talk about it?) I haven't, I am thirty something, if I have I would talk about it." Lok Jai also said that he has not considered girls of other nationalities. He was very nervous about his mother communicating with her, so he would like to find someone who spoke the same language. If they had nothing to talk about it would be quite a bother, as he in the future would like to live with his family.

Kenneth Ma and Nancy Wu: “We Are Ex-Lovers!”

Despite numerous romantic rumors in the past, Kenneth Ma (???) and Nancy Wu (???) have never publicly admitted their relationship. In an effort to clarify rumors that Nancy possessed a “princess attitude” and dumped Kenneth due to her monetary greed, Kenneth revealed that the pair were once ex-lovers and the reason for their break up!

Often internalizing his personal matters, Kenneth rarely discussed his love life. In a recent radio interview, Kenneth revealed that he and Nancy had dated after performing in Strictly Come Dancing "????" in 2010. Noting that they broke up due to personality differences, Kenneth stated, “We are not too compatible in our personalities.” (She is too aggressive?) “I am a person who is satisfied with the status quo. Perhaps the timing was off. We broke up peacefully and are still friends right now. I am admitting this relationship because I want to clarify that Nancy does not possess a ‘princess attitude.’ I did not dump her! She is a very good girl. We continue to meet for dinner; it will not be surprising if you chance upon us meeting [in the future] because we are still a rumored couple! Ha ha! (Will you reconcile with each other?) “I do not know what will happen in the future!” (Despite you clarifying Nancy’s reputation, she said she was upset at you!) “Then I will not talk about it next time!”

Not Awkward In Seeing Each Other

Rumored “ex-lovers” Kenneth and Nancy appeared one after the other at the TVB makeup studio. Asked about her past relationship with Kenneth, she laughed, “Since he brought up the subject, let him discuss it!” (Do you feel awkward when you see each other?) “No, we are friends.” (You dated for one year?) “Your questions are too sudden! Personal matters will be dealt with privately; I am the type of person who wishes to reveal [a relationship] publicly when it is time for marriage!”

Asked whether Kenneth had withheld their dating secret for a long time before revealing their relationship, Nancy said, “Ha ha…I suspect that he is using me for publicity! His new drama, The Hippocratic Crush "On Call 36 ??", received very high ratings!” (Are you upset?) “Yes! He’s using me for promotion!”

“Fierce Tigress” Tavia Yeung Tries to Control Him Law?

Since breaking up with debt-straddled former boyfriend, Nam Wai Kit (???) in 2007, Tavia Yeung’s (??) time was occupied by filming. The emergence of Him Law (???) may have moistened her life, sparking her desires! According to a witness, Him Law often visited her apartment in the middle of the night. Despite wearing a cap, his sneaky demeanor made his presence even more prominent!

Him’s close friend revealed to the press, “Tavia kept a close eye on Him, calling him at least 10 times each day! Sometimes if he cannot hear the phone right or has no time to answer, she will repeatedly call until he picks up the line. Tavia is not as stupid as Theresa Fu (??); she will act concerned or worried about him, not allowing him the opportunity to play.”

Him’s friend continued, “Aside from calling frequently, Tavia requested that Him report back at the apartment each night. One time, Tavia went home at 3 AM after work and still called, requesting Him to to especially travel from Tai Po Chung to see her! Him said that he has never felt [a woman] cling so close before while dating!”

The inside source continued, “Allegedly, Him pleaded his management company for help earlier, requesting to travel for work while trying to escape from Tavia’s clutches. As a result, Him went to Dubai last month to shoot a travel special. Him avoided her for more than one week until Valentine’s Day, upon which he had recharged his batteries to comfort his girlfriend in Hong Kong! Earlier, Tavia repeatedly questioned whether there were female companions on the trip. Of course, Him said there were none, to avoid further questions. Sometimes, Tavia Yeung really asks too many questions. How will a man not feel bothered?”

Him Law possessed a violent past. It may be advisable for Tavia to realize that “exerting greater pressure may result in greater resistance.” If not desiring the shuffling of hands and feet such as Theresa Fu’s case, it was best to not control too much.

Wayne Lai, Michelle Yim, and Maggie Shiu Film “The Great Eunuch”

Starring Wayne Lai (???), Michelle Yim (??), and Maggie Shiu (???) ,The Great Eunuch "???", was one of TVB’s heavyweight dramas in 2012. Originally, the cast of The Great Eunuch was scheduled to leave Hong Kong on March 12th to film in Hengdian, China. Since TVB was attempting to accommodate international film and television exhibition, FILMART 2012, the date of departure was delayed by one week, upon which the cast will film in Hengdian until April. Wayne Lai indicated that he was happy to be able to participate in the annual showdown of FILMART 2012. With the imminent war to start in the Hong Kong free broadcasting industry, Wayne did not mind even donning “armor” help out!

FILMART 2012 was a four-day exhibition event starting on March 19th at the Convention Center. Following its normal practice, TVB will display its “showdown” of heavyweight dramas for the year, including: The Great Eunuch "???", War and Beauty "?????", Fight Crime "????", Prominent Family "????" and Stairway to Heaven "??".

Wayne Lai Wears Knee Pads To Avoid Exertion

Last night, Wayne Lai, Michelle Yim, and Maggie Shiu filmed an outdoor scene for The Great Eunuch at the Kowloon Walled City Park. The scene spoke of the little emperor seeking thrills which lead to a fire. Portraying an eunuch, Wayne saved the life of the little emperor in a timely manner. The event became the turning point in which Wayne gained the notice and trust of the Empress Dowager Cixi, portrayed by Michelle Yim. During the filming of the scene, Wayne knelt on the ground for several times while greeting Michelle. Fortunately, Wayne prepared in advance by wearing knee pads. Revealing that he will be kneeling often in the series, Wayne will wear knee pads to avoid discomfort.

Michelle Yim As Empress Dowager Cixi

Wayne was happy that The Great Eunuch was heavily regarded by TVB. “I do not mind putting on armor for a battle scene! Although it was difficult for everyone to film this palace series and the pedantic dialogue required a lot of time to memorize, but the partnership has been enjoyable. Michelle Yim delivers an elegant and grand impression in her portrayal of the Empress Dowager.”

Michelle thanked Wayne for his praise. Michelle noted, “The dialogue is beautifully written in The Great Eunuch. If the dialogue is memorized duly, then the lines will flow comfortably. I was not a strong student in school, thus I will need more time to memorize the lines.” Costar, Helen Ma (???), praised Michelle for possessing a good memory and having few outtakes. Maggie Shiu complimented Michelle for leading the cast towards immersion in their respective roles.

Wayne Possesses No Intention of Plastic Surgery

Recently filming an online shopping ad, Wayne noted that the make-up artist was able to transform his looks to make him appear more youthful. Filming the Outsmart "????" program at night, Wayne reverted back to his normal look. In addition, Wayne wore a wig for the filming of the online ad, giving his hair a lush and thicker appearance. On the other hand, Wayne wore a cap for his Outsmart appearance, which resulted in a significant difference.

Stressing that he never considered plastic surgery, Wayne noted that the audience was accustomed to seeing his normal face. In addition, existing lighting and camera work can already produce wonders. As a man, Wayne was unable to easily accept plastic surgery. He felt that it was normal for one to exhibit the signs of aging and did not mind [about his looks].

Kenneth Ma admits he dated Nancy Wu before

(Aside from being his co-star, Tavia Yeung has also said she wants to find a girlfriend for him)

(Kenneth rises in popularity, surrounded by fans in Central)

TVB medical drama The Hippocratic Crush premiered last week, with a peak rating of 31 points. Kenneth Ma (Ma Ming) rises and becomes TVB's first line Siu Sang. Riding on the momentum, Kenneth said he wants the dough and not the love: "I want more endorsements and stage work. I even hope to shoot some series in Mainland to earn some extra money. The faster the better." Well that's true too, he's a famous and single man that many are after. Just as long as you have the chips, there is no fear you won't find a wife.

Its no surprise, the 38 year old middle-aged Kenneth is desperate to break away from 'poverty'. In 2007, Kenneth still used the subway as means of transportation. It wasn't until 2008 when he finally got himself a car valued at HK$300,000 Comparing the fame and fortune, Kenneth still lags behind other TVB Siu Sangs such as Kevin Cheng or Moses Chan. Fortunately, Kenneth's first series The Hippocratic Crush, in which he takes the lead, has been well acclaimed. Today, Kenneth stepped foot on the most crowded areas in Central's Time Square to do a practical research on audience' reactions. As a result, it wasn't even 5 minutes yet and he was already surrounded by a group of See Lai (housewives) and female students. One See Lai couldn't help but shout: "Handsome Kenneth Ma! You did so well in your series!" Then it was Kenneth's turn to feel happy, he said softly: "And I was worried no one would care!"

Borrowing the Series to Honor Doctors

First time taking the lead in a series, Kenneth is very anxious on how audience would react: "Three days after the series broadcast, I already had people calling me 'Yat Kin Tau'. Netizens are actively discussing online and even Doctors are discussing whether or not they have been scolded that severely by supervisors when they were interns? To me, I don't have much pressure on the TV ratings. I just want to share my satisfaction of the filming process. Although I don't know how to do the actual hands-on work, but I know how to describe the neurosurgery procedures. The production of this series was very serious. In every scene in the surgery rooms, there were always two advisory doctors directing us in the room. Many of the equipment were also provided by those two doctors. I hope to borrow this series and show my respect to all medical staff. In fact, it really is stressful and difficult being a doctor, it's like a mission. (What type of hopes do you have?) Honestly speaking, of course I hope to gain fame and fortunes. I hope to grasp Dr. Cheung's upright image and get more endorsements and stage work jobs. It would be best to have an opportunity to shoot a Mainland drama, so I can earn some extra money. I currently set a two year plan to purchase a property in Hong Kong Island East, a 1,000 square feet property that a family of 7 can live in. The budget is approximately 10 million, so I will really have to put in my greatest effort in earning money."

Oppressive Personality, Not Reason of Breakup

Is Kenneth a lot like Dr. Cheung Yat Kin (his role), he only cares about his career and not his love life? "I am not as generous as Dr. Cheung, he just has to support his disabled brother to study abroad, so he's charging up forward with all his efforts. As for myself, it's not that I don't date, it is just I haven't met the right one. Especially as I get older, it becomes more and more difficult. I admit I do have a personality issue. The most miserable is not boredom, I don't mind living a single life, and also my life circle is quite narrow. I'm in the filming studio day and night, how can I find someone? It's even harder to meet people outside of the industry. Initially Mandy Wong and Selena Li promised they'll introduce women to me, but it was just all talk. Honestly, it's hard for us to meet, let alone date? Oh just forget it! I'll just leave relationships to fate. In 2000, when I graduated from the 14th TVB Acting Class, I had 18 other classmates and today, only two stayed and I was the only one that made it on the front line, so I really have to cherish every rare opportunity that comes before me."

Kenneth and Moses Chan are known as the TVB Siu Sangs that don't 'mess with girls'. Over the years, Kenneth rarely had rumors, his only two rumored girlfriends were Margie Tsang and Nancy Wu. Now are these rumors true or false? Kenneth frankly said: "Nancy and I dated before, and broke up last year. It wasn't because she thought I was boring, just our personalities don't match. On the contrary, Margie and I, personality wise, we click very well. Every time we meet we would chat nonstop. However, we have never dated before. (Any chance to develop a relationship?) I don't know, she is just a friend that I have known for many years."

Wayne Lai Challenges Donnie Yen’s “Ip Man”

Receiving a substantial fee, Wayne Lai (???) donned a wig and martial arts robes to film an ad for PARKnSHOP supermarket. This was the third year in which Wayne was the spokesperson for the chain store. Breaking away from his normal gentle image, Wayne spoofed “Ip Man” and staged a classic scene in which Wayne combated ten opponents. Demonstrating his strength, Wayne even punched through a wall! Wayne was completely in character as a martial arts fighter. After sparring with an authentic Wing Chun expert, Wayne’s stances appeared to be strong and practical!

An Enjoyable Filming Experience

Wayne revealed, “I will be filming three short clips for the advertiser. In this clip, I spoofed ‘Ip Man.’ The remaining two images are standout as well. The filming experience was good fun!”

Realizing that there will be action sequences, Wayne stretched out his tendons early in the morning. Satisfied with the results, Wayne smiled and said, “At first, they considered using fast grid film, but it was unnecessary. I am able to handle scholarly and martial arts tasks! I had practicied karate during my high school years. Growing up in the generation of Bruce Lee, we had to learn some martial arts, which makes it easier to cope with filming ancient dramas.”

Exploring Strengths

When it was noted that TVB should cast him in a martial arts drama, Wayne said with a smile, “It’s indeed rare! This video clip revealed my [physical] strengths. In my earlier sparring session with a martial arts trainee, he became short of breath! One day, Donnie Yen (???) can open up his position by filming comedies, while I take upon martial arts roles!”

[News] Yoseob, “When I was about to be removed from BEAST, Rain helped me stay”

It has been revealed that Yang Yoseob and Yong Junhyung could have never debuted as BEAST.

In the recent filming BEAST stated, “While we were practicing for debut, Yang Yoseob and Yong Junhyung were on the verge of being cut from the group.”

Yang Yoseob commented, “Before debut, BEAST’s concept was a group with strong manly type of feel. However, I was short and since I had a young image, I didn’t fit into the image that the management was working on. That is why I was greeted with the words that I couldn’t debut in the middle of my trainee days.”

He added revealing the dramatic story line behind their debut, “Before I left the management, the members and I recorded a video clip of us just playfully practicing. Rain sunbaenim just happened to see that video and told the management, ‘He is the one having the most fun in here ~ Why would you cut if off?’ and recognized me. Thanks to him I was able to get a second chance.”

Yong Junhyung commented, “I knew that they were cutting me off a week ahead of time. I happened to look at a note that belonged to a staff in the management and it read ‘Clean out Yong Junhyung’.”

Fortunately, Yoseob and Junhyung managed to debut and are still in the group and will be there as long as they are having fun together. They do not deserve to be remove from the group though. BEAST will not be BEAST if any of them will be remove or replace. Thanks to Rain for helping Yoseob to stay in the group.

Tavia Yeung: 'Year of the Carnivore' is true

Tavia Yeung, Fala Chen, Moses Chan, Evergreen Mak, and George Lam attended the Japan Home Centre Spring dinner event last night. Aside from singing and playing games, the artists went off the stage to shake hands with audience. Among the group, George was the most popular, where the audience surrounded him to take pictures. Moses was also surrounded by a group of female fans. A very lively atmosphere.

Recently, Tavia has been surrounded by gossips. First it was rumors that she got plastic surgery and then it was reported that rumored boyfriend Him Law said in front of his friends that she's upright the 'year of the carnivore' (chinese = 'fierce tiger'). Regarding the reports, Tavia expressed she wasn't upset and even joked: "Just think of it as promotions! Because I'm a popular person! There is no need to clarify anything. Is it true? I'll have to ask Him Law first, but I don't think he'll say that. First, the 'fierce tiger' is true, I have to be real 'fierce' to earn more money. (It's about demanding for sex though?) I really don't believe he would say that, who really understands us that much!"

When speaking of their 'latest development'? Tavia expressed they are still good friends. Earlier, Him strongly supported that she didn't get plastic surgery done, Tavia said: "Many people support me, not just him. I saw the report that he said he's supporting me so much that his back is aching. I'll give him some ointment for his back in return! (Isn't it more special tha he's supporting you?) Any guy who supports me, I will love!"

As for Fala and Evergreen, they were quite interactive with the audience. Fala asked if she's dressed especially conservative due to this? She said: "A little sexy! It's see through still. (Are you afraid of perverts?) Nope, most important is the good atmosphere." Evergreen reveals he and Eric Tsang went to Japan for promotions earlier, and had been eating day and night. Over the Lunar New Year, he gained over 20 pounds, fortunately Eric gave him two bags of slimming pills. Evergreen said: "I'm actively trying to lose weight! I had a crab feast in Japan too with Timmy Hung and Chin Kar Lok. We were going out to eat pulled noodles every night, extremely full every night!"
