38 year old former ATV artist Alice Chan joins TVB

'ATV's Big Sister' Alice Chan switches over to become TVB's FaDan. Yesterday she had a meeting to discuss the contract ('per series') at TVB City and will be officially picking up the pen soon. In April, she will be participating in new series Justice Attack (????). In 1996, after Alice won first place in the Miss Asia pageant, she joined ATV and had been heavily promoted to become ATV's Big Sister. In 2008, she married Taiwanese businessman (James Yen) and her acting career faded off since then. Alice has now become bored of being a wealthy wife and plus she's craving to act again, so she decided to make a comeback. The 38 year old decides to join TVB.

Alice praises her new company: "I look for the best work team, TVB is the only option. I'll be shooting new series Justice Attack in April, where I will be playing a strong businesswoman." In the past, Alice was ATV's Big Sister, and now that she switches to a new environment, she does not mind rankings. The most important is to gain recognition for her work and the pay is a 'comfortable price'.

Lately, TVB FaDans and Siu Sangs have been leaving TVB one after another and the company also has to make way for their current artists to have opportunities to make the extra Chinese yuan up north. Because of this, there has been a lack of artists. TVB's Production & Resource Director, Virgina Lok, can only go out and start recruiting new artists. Miss Lok reveals they have several new targets, she hopes to convince Stanley Fung to shoot TV series again. She said: "I have been discussing with Alice for nearly a year. Audience have pointed out there should be new and different artist pairings, this is good for the series arrangements and it is not easy to 'strike' artists." Aside from speaking with Stanley, Miss Lok will also make arrangements for Eddie Cheung to have other collaborations.

Ron Ng's mother rushes him to buy a home; Linda Chung no fear of limelight stolen by Mandy Wong

Ron Ng and Linda Chung have great confidence for their series L'Escargot. Ron expressed the script is one of his top three favorites among all the series he's film in the last ten years.

Ron expressed when he was young, he lived in a 400 square feet home with his family before. He said: "I slept in the living room when I was young, but that time life was great, I always go out to the hallway to play ball and table tennis. Kids nowadays have so many video games to play with, such a luxurious life." When reporters teased they thought his family was rich, Ron became tense and said: "Of course not, did you get the wrong person! (It's Raymond Lam?) All he plays with are model [toys]."

Ron said his mother's greatest wish is when he's able to buy his own house, and does not hope he rents. Ron said: "The best is to live with my mother. When I get home from work, I get to have good soup and a nice dinner. For lunch, I get a nice lunchbox. There was a period of time when my mom had to go help my sister babysit, I felt so meaningless that time, had to rely on my domestic worker and only had noodles. (Get yourself a wife!) I'm not at an marriageable age yet, still have to buy a house and earn more money."

Linda is very happy to hear L'Escargot is getting positive response. She is also very happy that Mandy Wong as "Kwan Yee So" is rising in popularity from this role. "She is an artist with high flexibility, but I am not afraid she will steal my limelight. I just hope the series can touch audiences' hearts. Of course the best is that every character gets popular."

Mandy gets yelled at on the streets

"Kwan Yee So" Mandy's popularity has been on the rise, yesterday she accepted Metro Radio's interview and when asked if she gets yelled at on the streets? She laughed: "Yeah, I have been yelled at before. When I go to a place with lots of people, some would scold me and ask why is my character so dislikeable? However, there are also many of my seniors like Power Chan and Raymond Cho that have praised I did well."

Regarding the Ron and Linda breakup scene in L'Escargot said to have been a complete ripoff of Raymond Lam and Tavia Yeung's breakup scene in The Mysteries of Love? Mandy said breakups are often conveyed by crying, so she does not feel its plagiarism.

Ron Ng: "I was poor and lived in public housing!"

Ron Ng and Linda Chung possessed confidence in their currently aired TVB drama, L’Escargot. Although “Kwan Yi So” Mandy Wong shot to popularity since the broadcast of the drama, Linda was not afraid of the spotlight being stolen, instead praising that Mandy had a lot of potential.

Among his recent series in the last few years, Ron admitted that L’Escargot was one of his top 3 favorite scripts. While growing up, Ron and his family had lived in a 400 square feet public housing apartment. Ron stated, “When I was a child, I slept in the living room. However, we lived happily together. I often kicked ball in the building hallways and played ping pong, unlike the children today who have the luxury to play video games.”

Upon the reporter’s comment that Ron was misconstrued as coming from a moderately well off family, Ron said nervously, “Of course not! Did you confuse me with someone else?” (Was it Raymond Lam?) “He grew up playing model toys!”

Indicating that his mother wished he would become a property owner soon and not have to pay rent, Ron said, “It would be best if I can live with my mother, so there is soup to drink after work, breakfast and lovingly-prepared lunchboxes to eat! For some time, my mother had to take care of my sisters’ kids and I felt very lonely. I had to rely on the maid and often ate instant noodles.” (Why don’t you get married!) “I have not yet reached an age suitable for marriage yet. I have to buy a house and earn enough money first!”

Raymond Lam Will Only Kiss Kate Tsui in “Fight Crime”

Raymond Lam (??), Kate Tsui (???), and Ella Koon (???) filmed in Sheung Wan for their new TVB drama, Fight Crime "????", yesterday. Raymond attracted a large crowd of fans requesting autographs and photos. A bakery proprietress smiled widely upon recognizing Raymond at her store. She offered to treat Raymond to free bread, but he refused, “No, business is still business.” Their disagreement over money went back and forth. Finally, Raymond succeeded in paying for his bread.

After completing their outdoor scene for Fight Crime, Ella and Kate boarded the TVB van to change into another set of costumes. Despite being criticized for his “undeserved” wins of Jade Solid Gold’s “Asia-Pacific Most Popular Male Singer Award” and the JSG “Golden Melody Gold Award” in January, Raymond was surrounded by a large group of fans. Raymond complied with their requests for photos and autographs in a friendly manner. It appeared that his popularity was not impacted his recent negative rumors.

Ella Unafraid of Encountering Ex-Flame Again

Recording for the Jade Solid Gold program earlier, Ella was asked whether she was afraid that she will run into ex-flame, Ron Ng (???), at TVB City. Ella immediately changed the topic, “Aside from work, I rarely pay attention to anything else.” (Will you greet Ron Ng?) “I will say hello to everyone I know upon seeing them.”

Despite sharing numerous scenes with Raymond Lam in Fight Crime, Ella was unafraid of generating romantic rumors. Ella revealed, “In the drama, Raymond will only kiss Kate Tsui and not me!” (Is your boyfriend afraid of you encountering Ron Ng again?) “My actions are upright and I have nothing to be afraid of! My boyfriend will not ask me about my work.”

Teresa Mo gives her sexiest to Eric Tsang

Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Teresa Mo Shun Kwan team up again during the Lunar New Year for the film I LOVE HONG KONG 2012 (2012 NGOR OI HK HEI SEUNG GA HEI). Mo Mo would even make a sacrifice for art as her most daring sexy performance in her film career was one of the film's secret weapon. Mo Mo said, "No one has seen me with so little clothing, displaying the career line during an erotic dance. Everything is real. During the shoot the set was clear to a certain level. When the crew saw this scene they were all wowed." She worried that her revealing performance would frighten her family, thus she would deliberately invite her husband and daughters to the show.

As the producer and lead actor, Chi Wai was unwilling to have his thunder shown and came up with his own pleasant surprise. He said, "I would have many costumes and dress up as certain characters so the viewers would smile from their hearts." Mo Mo thought Chi Wai's performance was hilarious. He did not like to follow the script, he always improvised. Chi Wai spoke of this Lunar New Year film was made according to the audience demand. He hoped to add some atmosphere to the New Year. The script initially had Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Carol Cheng Yui Ling in mind, but the script was not be written according to their personalities. With Chin Wa's pregnancy she turned it down. He then thought of his old partner Mo Mo, along with Stanley Fung Shui Fan, Denise Ho Wan Si, Bosco Wong Chung Chak, Lok Wing, 3F national bust goddess Zhang Xinyu and a group of TVB aritsts they had a little fun and the result was very satisfying.

Chi Wai praised Ho Wan Si's acting as having her own style and had shades of her mentor Anita Mui Yim Fong. Ah Si and Wong Chung Chak's kiss scene was the most memorable for him. Chi Wai joked, "Because I have never seen Ah Si kiss a guy."

Although Mo Mo might be a second choice, she did not mind at all. "I don't care, I get paid and the role is right for me. I couldn't agree any faster. In addition comedy partner is very hard to find, on this rare occasion the co-star is old partner Chi Wai. We have chemistry so we have more fun."

Elanne Kong encounters angry driver, kicked off car and left abandoned on the highway

In the recent year, Elanne Kong concentrated on the Mainland market, shooting series after series up north. It was also rumored, she and Mainland actor Yuan Hong (??) sparked love, making her career and love life run smoothly. However, unfortunate incidents happens to Elanne time after time. Following a burglary late last year, yesterday morning Elanne encounters an angry driver that suddenly refused to drive her and kicked her out of the car. Aside from being unlucky, Elanne was also frightened to death.

Initially, Elanne was in Xiangshan shooting for Mainland drama Mulan (?????), but yesterday on the 7th day of Lunar New Year, she and her colleague Candy Liu, and their two assistants set out on the trip back to Hong Kong. A ride on a 7-seater van was prepared for them to take a road trip from Xiangshan to Hangzhou airport. The four girls also had a lot of luggage, so basically the van only had just enough space to fit the four girls and their luggage. However, the driver was already in opposition the previous night, insisting that he has to bring his two relatives along and squeeze in the 7-seater.

As they were heading to Hangzhou, the driver was speeding on the roads and suddenly he started shouting in the car because he was having an argument with the crew over the phone: "No matter what, you must get a car and send my two relatives back to Hangdian, otherwise you will have to pay for them to leave. If not, I won't take [the girls] to the airport and instead make a speedy U-turn back to drive [my relatives] back to Hangdian myself!" Results, the driver heartlessly, rushed Elanne and her colleagues off the van and left them in the middle of the highway under the cold weather!

Although the girls were able to eventually make it safety to the airport, Elanne was still furious at the driver, Master Xu, for his terrible behavior. She immediately wrote about the whole incident on Weibo. She expressed if there was extra space in the van, she and her colleagues wouldn't have mind if the two relatives tagged along with them, but the 7-seater was already very tight, so packed that there was no leg room at all. Master Xu knew the four of them were in a rush to catch their flight, but he still used them to threaten the crew. Elanne exploded that Master Xu is inhumane: "He abandoned four girls in the middle of the highway and in the cold weather. I took the taxi to the airport myself, that Master Xu! Please, can you be a little more humane?!" Elanne urged other artists to be cautious, if in the future they have to shoot in that location, watch out for those rotten drivers. As for Candy Liu, she replied bawling out: "People like him that can survive until now, consider him good luck! It is because he saw that us girls were easy to bully!"

Last night, Elanne finally arrived safely in Hong Kong. When she accepted [Oriental Daily]'s interview, she was still frightened: "That driver was constantly on the phone while he was driving us, his emotions went up and down, and almost flipped the car! Later, we decided to get off the van because we're only four girls without any strength, it's too dangerous, I would rather drive myself." Elanne is born in the year of the Dragon, her fortune this year says she will encounter unfortunate incidents, she laughed and said perhaps because she hasn't wrapped a peach blossom around herself and walked a circle yet. As for taking legal action, she gives her company full authority to handle it for her.

As Elanne's boss, Lam Siu Ming, when he learned his artist Elanne was bullied in Mainland, he very unhappy and angered. Over the phone, he did not hesitate to say he will get to the bottom of this incident: "How can such incident happen? It is about the personal safety of four girls, how can he just abandon them in the middle of the highway, under the cold weather. He absolutely does not have any sense of responsibility for his job and is completely immoral! Anyway, I will find this driver and take legal action on him!"

GEM enjoys the 'God-Interaction' Love, hopes to marry in two years

This year, 20 year old GEM marks her third year in the industry. Not too long ago, GEM hoped to be married by age 25. Since she met Taiwanese singer Yoga Lin, the two's long-distance relationship is blocked by a heavy barrier. GEM have also been suffering from criticisms and verbal attacks by Yoga's fans. She was so frightened, she didn't dare to mention him again. After GEM was baptized, she experienced God's enlightenment and now she longs to set foot on marriage by age 22 and make her lifelong promise.

(GEM speaks...)

In the past, I thought love was no matter what, my boyfriend would accommodate me -- drop me off and pick me up; even if he doesn't like the gift I gave him, he won't show it; I also want him to talk to me on the phone every night; on holidays, he must set aside time for me; Valentine's Day he must celebrate with me. He doesn't have to say "I Love You", but his actions must show that he cares about me and really does love me. If I gave him 100% of my love, and he gives me back only 20%, I would feel it's unfair and he's definitely a bad man. I would feel discouraged and won't love him again. So, that's why I always argued with my ex-boyfriend over some small matters!

Last September, I was baptized. When I officially got to know Jesus' altruistic love, I understood what love really was. It is not about what you get in return or the contributions; not about receiving gifts from boyfriend and so I have to give one back. It is, you give the gift to him purely because you love him. No matter if he likes the gift or not, you will still be happy to have gave it to him because this represents the love, you have for him. I learned how to go love a person, that it's not about what you get in return, but it depends on the contributions made from the heart. So as a girlfriend, the smart thing to do is don't ask your boyfriend to contribute anything, don't ask him to talk to you on the phone, then he will think his girlfriend is very good and will naturally spend more time with you. My first love was at age 15, and up until now, I have had 3 boyfriends. I have never done quick relationships, I think people who do that can't put out true feelings. I personally admit that I am a good girlfriend because I'm faithful.

Trying to get publicity criticisms

Since that incident with Yoga Lin, I am really scared because even now, his Taiwan and Mainland fans are still madly criticizing me. I often get criticized by people that I'm trying to get publicity, such misery! I personally just want to concentrate on my music, never have I made up gossips and news. In the past, all the rumors I had with William Chan and Justin Lo are fake! Hong Kong reporters watched me grow from when I was 16 and 17 years old, they know what type of person I am. However, the press from other areas do not know, so I am very scared. Later, I didn't dare to mention him (Yoga) anymore. I hope everyone can leave some space for me to handle it. After all, I will never, ever in my life, use my relationship to get publicity.

I feel a long-distance relationship is just like interacting with God. I handle it well myself, although I can't see God, can't speak to him, can't embrace him, but we can spiritually communicate, I feel it's very close. My current views on love changed, he does not necessarily have to be in front of me, just as long as I'm willing to take the time, then I can maintain the relationship. I feel that when talking to my boyfriend on the phone, it feels as if I'm praying to God. I do not need to see him, its love that does not get influenced by the environment. That is my current love life.

Identify Lifelong Partner

Currently, I only have one requirement for my partner, he must be Christian. I really want my boyfriend to know how to love me after he has God. Also, I see many Christian couples that get along very happily, so my greatest hope is for my boyfriend to be a Christian.

In the past, I hoped to be married by age 25, but now I want to marry at 22! I often think I'll definitely be very happy after marriage and that he's definitely my lifelong partner. I asked Jesus once: "Am I going to marry this person?" The seal God gave me really makes me feel at ease, this seal I cannot say right now, but I will tell everyone when I get married. Although God didn't tell me when I'm going to be married, but I just hope by age 22. No matter who God arranges me to be with, he will definitely be the best person. As for if my Mr. Right has already appeared? I cannot say now. If it isn't him, then that be real awkward! Haha.

Kenneth Ma is thankful magazine wrote he dumped Nancy Wu

Kenneth Ma and Lily Ho attended an event together. Recently it was reported that Kenneth ruthlessly dumped rumored girlfriend Nancy Wu and that she moved out of their 'love nest'? He clarified said: "Why is it always rumored that I dumped her? We were never cohabiting, I live with my parents and elder sister. Nancy was just coincidentally living near me, it's her relative's home and recently the relatives wanted the house back. Thanks to the magazine for writing that I dumped her, and not that she dumped me. (Dating?) We had always been friends. (She worships money?) In my impression, she doesn't. (Tells you to buy expensive items for her?) Why would she? (You're afraid to give anything expensive?) Can't be afraid, chose it myself."

[News] 2NE1's "I Am The Best" and Still the Best!

These days popularity shifts very quickly; a song could last a whole month or even just one day. K-pop has become popular around Asia and throughout the world, but the shifting popularity is sometimes looked at as a problem. From these groups, girl group 2NE1 promoted "I Am the Best" last summer and in one day that music video got over 1,000,000 hits. The song climbed up the chart but its popularity hasn't died down.

I am the Best, as of the January 28th, had over 30,000,000 views (actually it now has 31.2 million) and it ranks within the top 10 music videos with most views, along with Lonely and Hate You. 2NE1 has said, "We worked hard to show many sides of us in the IATB music video, so I think that is what attracted people" and "we want to make more cool videos in the future".

They also noted that they ask for support and attention. 2NE1 hasn't formally been introduced to the American market, but through SNS worldwide fans are asking for them. This has also allowed 2NE1 to win MTV's 2011 Best New Band in the World.

Watch the now legendary MV again, remind yourself just how much fun it is.

Before they started shooting, Niki took the rubber glove that was used to pick trash and threw it at Michael, frightening him so much went to hide. It was a very funny moment. Linda Chung a crybaby who is praised to be next TV Queen

Michael Miu, Michael Tse, Linda Chung and Ron Ng's TVB series L'Escargot is getting very good response. The episode broadcast the night before, about the aftermath of Ka Lok (Linda Chung) and Ko Wan Jim (Michael Tse) affair, led to the break up of Ka Lok and her boyfriend Dai Ting (Ron Ng). The couple weren't able to continue with their marriage and their performance moved audience to tears. Also, the scene where Michael Miu smacked his little sister Linda and hit Michael (Tse) shouting 'PK' to him, stirred up a very large reaction.

Viewers had a huge reaction to the foul language 'PK' being broadcast on TV. Reporters contacted Michael (Tse) about the issue, he laughed he does not mind getting scolded during the new year holidays. He laughed: "It's just another way to express sympathy!" As for producer Nelson Cheung, he expressed several series from the past had this 'foul language' broadcast too, TVB has a specific department responsible for examining the lines. If there is a problem, then they will point it out and so it should be no problem.

Earlier Linda Chung had an astonishing 'cry' scene in Yes Sir, Sorry Sir, and this time in L'Escargot, she continues the crying to draw in more viewers. There were some readers that complained that there is all this crying and weeping on TV over the Lunar New Year holidays, but at the same time, there are also praises. It was said Linda's crying has improved, a reader said it was a pity Linda couldn't get the My Favorite TV Female Character Award last year at the TVB Anniversary Awards for her role in 'Miss Koo'. The reader strongly supports Linda to get TV Queen for her Ka Lok role in L'Escargot.

Yesterday Linda said over the phone: "The award ceremonies are still so far away from now, I do not dare to say anything. I thank audience for all the support. (Did you have a difficult time crying?) When I was shooting that scene, I was feeling very emotional, really cried so much that my eyes became swollen. (Shouldn't be broadcasting such tragic crying scenes during Lunar New Year?) I hope everyone doesn't just concentrate on the crying, we just wanted to bring a positive message. The most important is the whole family happily together." Also, in the series Linda and Michael had an affair, and broke Ron's heart. It was said the ending will be a tragic one, although Ron forgave Linda, but Linda couldn't forgive herself and declined to reconcile with him!

Mingpao Exclusive Interview with Sally Yeh: 15 year marriage similar to riding a roller coaster; husband George Lam encourages her return to the music

Despite this past year’s JSG Top Ten Awards Ceremony results being heavily criticized by practically the entire nation, there was one particular highlight of the entire show that was welcomed by all audiences – former Canto-pop Queen Sally Yeh (???) leading the group BOY’Z and singer/dancer Tat Dik in a special performance of her classic hit “Believe in Yourself” «???». Not only did her performance cause all the artists present to give her a standing ovation, it also provided HK music fans with a treasured memory.

Entering the year of the Dragon, many former music industry ‘kings’ and ‘queens’ will be returning to the stage to perform for HK music fans – Sally Yeh will be among them! During this exclusive interview with Mingpao, Sally took the opportunity to officially announce that in September of this year, she will be collaborating with Peter Lam’s East Asia Entertainment Group (EA) to hold a concert at HK Coliseum. After her last concert in 2005 (which she collaborated with the HK Philharmonic Orchestra), Sally has been ‘hibernating’ for the past 7 years, rarely appearing at public events – even during the times when rumors about her marriage to singer George Lam being ‘on the rocks’ were especially strong, Sally never bothered to come out and explain or respond to the rumors. This year (2012), HK music fans got the rare opportunity to once again enjoy the Canto-pop Queen’s beautiful voice – not only that, Mingpao Weekly also had the rare opportunity to sit down with Sally and understand on a deeper level her 15 year marriage to George Lam.

.--.

Sally Yeh and George Lam married in 1996; in 1998, after the conclusion of their special “George Lam / Sally Yeh Good Luck Concert”«?????????????», Sally left the music industry temporarily. In 2002, Sally released a new album and in 2004, she held a series of concerts to commemorate her 25th year in the music industry – however, after her concert collaboration with the HK Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005, Sally once again ‘disappeared’ from the music industry. All this time, the outside world thought that Sally had ‘retired’, however during our exclusive interview, Sally expressed that the word ‘retirement’ never once crossed her mind: “Back then [after the 2005 concert], I just felt that it was the right time for me to stop and rest. Perhaps because as I started to get older, my thinking matured and I started to slowly realize that we only have one opportunity to live life – given that reality, I started to think about what I really wanted to do while alive in this world and came to the conclusion that I really wanted to learn more things and enrich my life. I’ve been very lucky all these years to have a career of my own that has enabled me to pursue things that interest me – I really wanted to understand the various relationships between people as well as the complications involved with life in general. These past few years, I’ve read a lot of English books that talk about people and their relationships. I’m very happy that I’ve been able to continually increase my knowledge – these past few years have been very fulfilling and have really helped me to grow as a person.”

50 years old and feeling moved

Throughout the past few years, Sally has continued to receive countless offers from various organizers to perform at shows, so why did she choose to return only this year? Sally unhesitatingly responded that it had to do with her approaching the 50 year old milestone: “Before, a lot of people asked me when I would hold another concert and I would respond to them: ‘Maybe when I turn 50!’ because I thought that if I don’t do it by that age, certain ‘things’ would ‘falter’…haha!” (Falter? Your voice?) “No, my voice could be maintained, however I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to maintain my physical stamina and energy after turning 50. I always tell myself: ‘If I still have vitality and energy by the time I turn 50, I definitely wish to come out and see my friends and fans!’”

During her time away from the industry, Sally had also done much traveling around the world. She expressed that her encounters during these travels were another motivating factor for her return to the industry: “Since I didn’t appear at events much anymore, I thought that perhaps people would have forgotten about me already, but it turns out that wasn’t the case – no matter which country I went to, people seemed to remember me. For example, one time, during my travels to the U.S., I was eating at a very small café in an isolated area, a place where I thought no one knew me, yet people would come up to me and ask: ‘Are you Sally Yeh? Why would you come here to eat? I love listening to you sing! When will you come out and sing for us again?’ When I went to Thailand and Vietnam, it was the same thing! Even when I went out shopping, I would always get asked: ‘When will you sing again?’ At first, I couldn’t believe it – all of them have heard my songs before? They still remember me? I was extremely moved! Since there were people out there who truly wanted to hear me sing again, then I happily obliged!”

Asked whether her husband George Lam supported her decision to return, Sally replied: “Actually, he has been telling me to return for many years already! He always asks me: ‘Why don’t you come out and sing again?’ He has encouraged me all along; every time I watch him perform, I would always feel that I still have a passion for singing – perhaps at that time, I didn’t feel I was ready to return, but now, I’m definitely prepared!” Having been married for 15 years already, how does Sally maintain such a strong relationship with her husband? Hearing this, Sally laughed and asked: “Really? It’s been 15 years already? That long?” after which she replied: “Actually, it’s a bit of a mystery to me! In my opinion, how to go about maintaining a long-lasting relationship with anyone is a mystery in and of itself. The important thing is communication; perhaps for us, we’ve been able to maintain because of our mutual respect for one another – we mutually respect each other’s space, way of thinking, etc. and because we understand each other, we are able to show appreciation and empathy for each other.”

Ups and downs, but no separation

Over the years, Sally has developed a fondness for golf, which slowly turned into a fondness for badminton – asked about her hobbies, Sally immediately interjected: “Right now, my new ‘love’ is Latin dancing!” It is understood that Sally’s husband George does not share the same hobbies, so he never accompanies her to them: “Yes, that’s true! We each have our own hobbies and interests – he has his, I have mine – there’s no point in forcing them together! If there are things we can do together, we do it, but if there aren’t, then we pursue our individual interests.” Because Sally and George don’t share the same interests or hobbies, there have been many times over the years where rumors have surfaced about problems with their marriage. Asked directly about this, Sally graciously answered: “I admit that the rumors did affect me a little at first -- as a Buddhist, I asked a spiritual teacher in the past how I could go about changing what people thought about me. He replied: ‘You’re wrong to think that way! Don’t be concerned about trying to change other people’s way of thinking – instead, concentrate on controlling your own thoughts.’ That’s a good thing!” (When you heard the rumors at first, were you upset?) “Of course! Anyone hearing such things would be unhappy, but at least now, I don’t let the reports affect me. I have no way of controlling what other people think, so as long as I feel it’s not important, then I let it go. Responding to the rumors and trying to clarify would only make things worse, as it would give them [the tabloids] the opportunity to write even more stuff.”

Asked whether she experienced many ups and downs in her 15 year marriage, Sally candidly replied: “Yes! A lot! Our relationship is like a roller coaster, so there would be ups and downs – actually, many people’s relationships are like this. Of course, my temper has a bit to do with it as well – I’m a bit tempermental, emotional, and have a strong personality – especially working in this industry, we are bound to experience huge fluctuations emotionally, but….that’s what makes it fun! Haha!” (Ever encountered marriage crisis?) “Crisis? Risk? Every marriage has risk! I once heard about a survey that said for every marriage, there’s a 50% chance that the couple will remain together in the end – so that means for every marriage, there is an equal chance of separating or remaining together. I actually think it’s quite funny! To be honest, every relationship will have fluctuations.” (In the worse case scenario, were there ever any thoughts of separating?) “Didn’t go into that! Didn’t go into that conversation! Relationships are really about having affinity – if you have affinity with a person, then you will continue to be together, if there’s no affinity, then there isn’t. Of course, you still have to work hard at it and be willing to invest time – in the end, it depends on which path you want to take.” With that said, is Sally satisfied with her marriage at this period of her life? “I’m satisfied with everything! Actually, I’m the type who is easily satisfied – let me have a good sleep and I’ll be happy with anything!”

Appearing at the JSG awards ceremony again after so many years, Sally admits that she empathizes with the younger generation artists: “I’m happy that I no longer have to sit up there facing the audiences! I remember in the past when we attended the awards at the HK Coliseum – I would sit there nervous and cold, holding a warm water pouch and tissues, wishing I were at home! I also remember clearly how I would stress about whether I’d get a particular award or not. So when I see the younger generation artists now, I can definitely understand what they are going through.” With regard to the Gold Song Gold award being given to Raymond Lam and causing heavy criticism, Sally replied: “Is Raymond Lam not popular? I thought Raymond Lam was very popular because back in the dressing room, people were repeatedly saying how popular he was.” (Have you heard the song «Chok»?) “«Chok»? No! But I haven’t listened to any songs at all! Ha! In terms of the current generation artists, I admire Hins Cheung the most. Every awards show has different judges and criteria – the person who chose Raymond Lam must have done so because he/she really likes him. Back in the day, when I received the ‘Most Popular Female Singer’ award, I’m sure there were people who opposed because the other female artists – such as Anita Mui, Sandy Lam, Faye Wong, Sammi Cheng – were just as popular during that time as well. My thought is that there is only 1 award, so if you don’t receive it, don’t be discouraged – just because you don’t get the award does not mean you are not popular!”

George Lam ‘hides’ the good songs

EA has shown interest in working with Sally on releasing a new album this year, however she insists that she won’t come out with a new album until she has a good song for it. Many years ago, George Lam wrote the song «????»[“Ten After Midnight”] for Sally, which shot her to fame – with the advantage of being married to George now, why doesn’t Sally just have him write her a good song? Is it because of the ‘rumor’ that back in those days, George was only able to write good songs because he was unhappy [with his previous relationship] and now that he is married, all his inspiration is gone? Sally confidently replied: “No! That’s wrong! Actually, many years ago, I had discussed the same matter with Eric Kwok – that time, Eric had asked whether George is able to write songs any time he wanted to or whether he needs to be in a certain mood (for example, happy or sad). The answer is that George can write songs any time he wants – in fact, he has written many songs throughout the past couple years, it’s just that he has them ‘hidden’ somewhere. Why doesn’t he let me sing those songs he wrote? Because sometimes, when I listen to the song, I’ll tell him: ‘Hm, that song is not too good!’ – he’s probably mad so he won’t let me sing it, haha! But recently, he’s been working on re-writing a song that someone else sang before and it really took me by surprise because the song is really really good!” With the way Sally and George interact, how could this couple possibly be going through marriage problems?
