TVB hands over treasured films to Hong Kong Film Archive
__________________________________________________________

Since opening in 1967, Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) has acquired many old Hong Kong films, including an impressive collection of 16mm and 35mm film copies, that provide free entertainment for viewers.

To show its ardent support for the preservation of film heritage, TVB has handed over about 1,000 film titles from the 1930s to the 1990s to the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) for permanent preservation. About 60 per cent of these archival films are new to the HKFA and will consequently greatly enrich its collection.

To mark the occasion, the TVB Film Treasures Handover Ceremony was held today (November 17) at the HKFA, with the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung, and the Assistant General Manager of TVB, Mr Peter Au, as officiating guests.

Film stars attending the ceremony included Ms Lee Hong-kum, Ms Helena Law, Mr Tam Ping-man, Mr Woo Fung, Mr Lee Tim-shing, Mr Michael Tse, Miss Myolie Wu, Mr Evergreen Mak, Miss Mag Lam, Ms Rebecca Zhu and others.

Mrs Betty Fung noted that the HKFA is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and with staunch support from the film industry, the HKFA has acquired over 10,000 films for its collection. For its part, the TVB film library is one of the pioneers in collecting and preserving Hong Kong's film heritage.

She thanked TVB for its generous support in handing over 937 films to the HKFA for preservation and research purposes, saying that the HKFA would treasure the films, continue its efforts in film research and showcase these archival treasures on the silver screen.

Mr Peter Au observed that the HKFA has acquired a rich collection of films and has made tremendous efforts to promote film culture. He believed that the handover of the films to the HKFA would lead to even greater sharing of its archival treasures with the public and better promote Hong Kong's film heritage.

TVB's collection is distinguished not only by its size but also by the wide variety of genres it covers. About 600 film titles, including 27 Chaozhou and Amoy dialect films, are new to the HKFA's collection. In addition, eight of the films are on the list of the HKFA’s recently recommended "100 Must-See Hong Kong Movies". The handover is an important milestone in the preservation of Hong Kong's film industry.

Films to be handed over include the earliest Chinese film in TVB's library, "Little Heroine" (1939), starring Hu Rongrong and Kung Chiu-hsia; and the earliest Hong Kong film in the library, "Female Spy 76" (1947) starring Wu Lai-chu and Wang Hao. The eight films on the list of HKFA's recommended "100 Must-See Hong Kong Movies" are: "Wong Fei-hung's Whip that Smacks the Candle" (1949), "Wong Fei-hung Burns the Tyrants' Lair" (1949), "Blood-stained Azaleas" (1951), "Mysterious Murderer" (1951) parts one and two, "Butterfly and Red Pear Blossom" (1959), "Father is Back" (1961) and "The Pregnant Maiden" (1968).

Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Lau Ching Wan mess up a fight scene

Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Lau Ching Wan in the film THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI) fought over Zhou Xun with brains and brawls, hand to hand and with weapons. However one scene in which they were in close combat with weapons became a source of comedy. The director arranged for them to be in a long sword dule, but Ching Wan during the fight broke the sword in half and the shoot was instantly silent. Later the director used his quick wit and went with the meteor hammer. Because the result was surprisingly good, this scene was added into the film. Ching Wan said, "The director asked me to pick up the hammer and swing it a few times. Who knew the result would be cool and the hammer and sword duel was pretty interesting."

Wai Jai who has worked on many action scenes admitted that he enjoyed this battle with the meteor hammer the most, because everyone was at ease to concoct a sense of humor. However during the fight scene they fought behind the curtain. Ching Wan played like he was stabbed and collapsed. One of the crew thought it was real and screamed and they had to shoot the scene again. Wai Jai said, "As I lunged toward Ching Wan, someone screamed. I thought I actually injured Ching Wan, but Ching Wan looked at me with a face full of suspicion. Then I realized that the sound came from outside. After leaving that curtain we realized that someone messed up."

Nancy Wu and Kenneth Ma have been rumored for several years now. Last year it was said they broke up, but yesterday a magazine reported again that Nancy is working hard trying to patch things up. It was rumored she asked TVB to give her the chance to go work in New Zealand with Kenneth, so she can patch things up while at work. However, Nancy welcomes anyone to give her and Kenneth jobs, they can earn money together as an on-screen couple. As if there is a chance to develop a relationship with Kenneth? Sharon Chan chooses a firing red outfit ready to take the Best Supporting Actress award

There are several reports that say Sharon is the hottest choice for 'Best Supporting Actress' and currently on the TVB.com voting, Sharon is leading the votes. Even in the Malaysian Astro TVB Awards held late-November, Sharon is the hottest choice for 'Best Supporting Actress' as well. Yesterday Sharon was choosing her outfit for the TVB Anniversary ceremony.

Yesterday Sharon chose two different outfits. One is a red colored tube dress and the other one is a black lace see-through long dress. When asked if she's going to be the sexiest artist at the TVB Anniversary Awards since the noise for her to win an award is pretty high? Sharon said frankly: "This year, I do have hopes for 'Best Supporting Actress', of course I want to appear beautiful at the event. However, since I'm 'Hot Leg Goddess', of course I'll just be revealing my legs and back. As for the chest reveals, leave that to others with the qualities."

When speaking of Liza Wang's praises that she's a real 'fighter', Sharon said: "I am happy to be praised by Ah Jeh (Liza). Also for Ghetto Justice, my role had good response. I will also have to put in the effort in for the fight myself. I hope everything goes smoothly and I can get the award. Over the last many years, this role is indeed a breakthrough for me. (Have you already prepared your acceptance speech?) I'm prepared! Whether I win or not, I will still be prepared, otherwise I'll blank out!"

Selena Li's suspected involvement in a pyramid scheme, damages reputation reserves right to take legal action

Selena Li has been said to be involved in a case of beauty cash-planting scheme (or a pyramid scheme). A 18 year old girl complained that a salesperson tried to sell her Body 9ine Culture product coupons, in which Selena is spokesperson for. The salesperson also tried to persuade her to borrow money using false information and join the marketing industry. All she has to do is buy a course of beauty treatment, take a course at Selena's Technique Beauty School (TBS) and sign a contract to become the company called, Enlighten, business development director. Soon after, the girl felt uneasy and disclosed the incident. Yesterday Selena appeared at TVB City to clarify the incident has nothing to do with her beauty school and she reserves the right to take legal action.

More Details (Spoiler):

[Apple Daily 11/16/2011] It all started from a survey. A salesperson asked a young girl (let's call her Katie) if she's interested in participating in a survey and to buy a coupon for beauty products (Body 9ine Culture). After some time of chatting, Katie handed over HK$290 to buy a coupon and even left her phone number with the salesperson. A few days later, Kate was brought to Selena's beauty school, TBS, that she opened in Jordan. Katie was persuaded to become a salesperson with the company (Enlighten), all she had to do was pay a HK$600 registration fee and to get the marketing rights. The company gave her 520 coupons to sell. If Katie is able to sell 1 coupon, she would earn HK$250 cash and if the customers use the coupon, she would earn 12% commission. If she was able to get more people to join the pyramid, however much they sell, she would get 4% commission. It sounds great, but Katie first has to pay HK$28,800 for makeup courses and beauty products. Katie is only working part-time, but only earns little over HK$1,000, so of course she won't be able to pay it off. Katie was urged to use false information to borrow money from a financial company. With the false information, she was able to borrow HK$30,000. She would repay the amount over a 5 year period, each month she has to pay about HK$1,000. When added up all together, she will have to pay back over HK$70,000. Katie, successfully becomes the company's business development director, but the false information given is illegal.

Yesterday afternoon, Selena appeared at TVB City for an interview. She stressed the beauty school she opened earlier, TBS, is not involved in this case. Selena expressed "Enlighten" is one of TBS's business partners, responsible to market the school's products and courses. If there is success in recruiting new students, there will be commission earned. So, sometimes there would be new students that go up to TBS for a tour. Enlighten's offices are also neighboring TBS, but Selena does not know of Enlighten's internal operations. It was only yesterday when Selena saw the report that she realized how much confusion there is in Enlighten's business operations and that they didn't fulfill the requirements, so she immediately cut off the collaboration with them. Also, she stressed she is only Body 9ine Culture's spokesperson and is not involved in their business operations. Her beauty school (TBS) is completely independent of the company.

Selena reiterated that her beauty school has nothing to do with this incident. If she really was involved in the fraudulent case, she believes she would already be in the police station. Yesterday after Selena saw the report, she wanted to cry, but she knew she had to face matter with maturity and handle it. She also felt the case affected her reputation, so she is currently seeking legal advice and reserve the right to take legal action.

Selena made a final comment that anyone who paid for a course with TBS through Enlighten can contact her beauty school and request for a refund. When asked if Enlighten's marketing strategy brought her a lot more income? She said it's been ok, TBS can still live without them, so it's not that flourishing.

I thought being shot by a group of men was very strange. Hopefully parents would give enough money to their children so they would not constantly be talking about money. They need to have a correct sense of value."

Playing a piano princess in the film, Si Nga actually was tone deaf. Thus she needed a piano tutor and learned as she shot. Earlier Prudence Liew Mei Kwan had an accident while on location, Si Nga revealed that when she was little she had a severe bicycle accident. She said, "When I was 12 I had a bicycle accident. Finally the left side of my face was injured and my tooth cracked. I still have a scar now. I understand Liew Mei Kwan's pain, she needs a little time to recover."

Shum Chi Ming revealed that he will work with Jeana in the new film. Earlier when they worked together on LAN KWAI FONG (HEI OI YEH PO) they already became good friends. Thus he was not afraid of rumors.

Speaking of the troubles from bringing pseudo model Cammi home, Shum Chi Ming said that was a great experience and that he would not have a next time. Did the incident have a huge impact on him? Shum Chi Ming said, "Right, it really had quite an impact. At first I was upset as my life, work and family were affected because even Taiwan heard the news. My family never worried about me since I was little, but this incident went on for too long. Mommy urged me not to pay too much attention and be stubborn."

Parents divorced and feelings of regret; Joey Yung: No longer feels hatred

Growing up in a single-parent family, Joey Yung has felt a lifetime of regrets since she was young, because of her parents' divorce. Joey admits that she had very little fate with her father, but she has kept in mind one sentence that her boss Albert Yeung has said. She now no longer feels hatred towards her father, and no one can replace the love her mother has shown to her and everything her mother has done.

"When I was young, my parents were already considering separating, so ever since I was small I understood that happiness cannot be forced. When I was 15 years old, my parents officially divorced. It had a great influence on my growing up. In the quiet of the late night, I always feel a sense of regret. All along, I have felt that I have had very little fate between my father and myself.

I remember Mr. Yeung (Alber Yeung) said to me: "In life, people have choices for everything, but there are two things that you cannot choose: your father and your mother." In the past, I was very angry at him (father), but I told myself not to be, because it is these two people who have brought me into this world. But having to face him while being very happy, I may not be able to do it. But in my heart, I no longer feel any hatred towards him. I do not contact him very much, but my brother will have dinner with him and my brother will tell me how my father has been recently. It is not that I do not want to see him, but rather that he has already established his own family and needs a lot of time to look after his new wife and children."

Position as a mother cannot be replaced

"Exactly because of my relationship with my father, the relationship I have with my mother is great, but it still needs to be cared for. All my life, mother has put a lot of effort into me, and in return she also expects a lot from me. I hope that she understands, even though I meet more and more friends as I grow up, it does not mean that her position in my mind or her importance have decreased. No one can ever replaced all the things she has done. I hope that there will never be even the slightest misunderstanding between us. My mother is a sentimental person, she will think so much that it gets her to a dead end. She is not willing to talk to me about it because she is afraid that it will bother me. I really hope that she does not keep problems in her heart. We are blood-related, but I am not her, so we need to communicate."

Unwilling to share inner feelings

"Because of the influence of my home, when I was young I did not want people to know that my parents were divorced. Because all my friends had a very happy and healthy family, but I seemed a little incomplete and unhealthy, so I never liked to share my inner feelings with people. In the eyes of my classmates and friends, I was a loner. Maybe it was a lack of a sense of security, I felt that a secret should forever be kept a secret, so I chose not to share my inner feelings with people."

Epilogue: Childish innocence has not disappeared

Joey who is 31 years old this year has mature thinking and appears calm on the outside. But in fact when she taks and moves, it is full of childishness. When the interview begain, Joey and the writer of this article were discussing what topics to talk about first. The two of them kept insisting on the other offering a suggestion, so Joey immediately suggested to play rock-paper-scissors to settle it. She immediately recited: "1.2.3....1.2.3...." and in the end, the writer lost the game. Joey laughed out loud and said: "You lost, you talk first!", revealing herself as a big kid.

Kevin Cheng's pants gets pulled down while hanging on water pipes

Kevin Cheng was in Sham Shui Po shooting for TVB new series Ghetto Justice 2 and attracted a large group of neighboring residents surrounding the location and asked for pictures. The scene was about Kevin upsetting Myolie Wu and was prohibited from entering the house, so he had to climb the water pipes and get in through the window.

Initially it was just necessary for Kevin to reveal his boxers, but a staff member was too excited to let reporters capture the best photos of the 'behind' and ended up pulling down Kevin's jeans instead. The surrounding onlookers were all shocked to see such a scene. Completely unprepared to show his 'beautiful butt', Kevin shouted loudly while handing on wires: "I thought the pants would come off from hanging here? Why is someone pulling it down now?" It was a very funny moment.

Later, Kevin expressed his fear: "It was pretty embarrassing, for no reason my pants was pulled down." Last time Kevin's 'butt crack' cleavage was well-received, this time his cleavage was on a bigger scope. He stressed this time he won't have to show his butt: "It's just boxers, I have protection underneath."

When speaking of the great noise for him to become this year's TV King, Kevin exaggerated he hopes to get both TV King and My Favorite TV Character awards: "Don't let it be no awards."

Reporters asked if Laughing Gor (Michael Tse) is his greatest opponent? Kevin expressed an opposing view, that he supports Wayne Lai. When reporters suggested Kevin to not wear anything to the awards ceremony, Kevin heard this and laughed: "That is extreme! I don't dare, don't have the confidence in this area."
