Lost 'TV Queen' title, Charmaine Sheh unwilling to sign TVB renewal contract

TVB's big sister Charmaine Sheh's contract with TVB expire in April. There is only two months left, but Charmaine is still unwilling to pick up the pen to sign for a contract renewal. It was said that because Charmaine lost the TV Queen title to Sheren Tang, making her negotiation a failure. For this reason, her contract issue has been dragged until today. No wonder, last month Charmaine's tone suggests that she may go out elsewhere to make more RMB (Chinese Yuan)!

Started off as a Miss HK, Charmaine has already been with TVB for 13 years, among the FaDans she is considered as the 'many productions' actress. Many of her series have received good ratings such as Beyond the Realm of Consciences, Forensic Heroes II, Can't Buy Me Love and more.

However, this 'golden egg' TVB seem to have already taken the initiative in the recent days. Charmaine's TVB management contract will expire in April, and the contract issue was initially already settled half a year ago, but Charmaine wanted to wait until TVB finishes discussing the award results before she decides. Unexpectedly the 'TV Queen' title finally landed on Sheren Tang's hand and she only got a condolence prize 'My Favorite TV Female Character Award', unfolding contract issues for TVB.

Actually with Charmaine's appeal to the Mainland market, it is not a problem if she wanted to head out to develop there. No wonder last month when asked about her TVB contract issues, she admitted that she was discussing with the company about the contract. She also expressed that she wants high quality productions, and hopes that her roles can bring audience a fresh new feeling. However, during a period of time, it is possible that she may head out to Mainland. The main reason is because filming in Mainland renders high rewards. Earlier she accepted to shoot a Mainland series Female Constables, and because of her accident at the airport, she was forced to withdraw from Forensic Heroes III. Fortunately, the recent new TVB boss (Chan Kwok Cheung), new person with new ideas, the contract issue may take a turn for the better.

Also, Bowie Lam won the Asia TV King award earlier in Singapore for his role in Sister of Pearl. The TV King honor was neglected by TVB and although TVB tried to fix it by holding a celebration party for him, Bowie's heart did not remain with them.

Siu Sang and FaDan Leaving and Coming Back

Gallen Lo, Louis Koo, Jessica Hsuan, Maggie Cheung and other first line Siu Sang and FaDans were once TVB's contracted artists, but now they don't have a management contract anymore. Jessica is currently just shooting 1 series per year.

Gallen Lo briefly returned to his 'maternal home', but later signed with a film company and headed back into the Mainland market. He re-married to a Mainland actress and since then remained in Mainland. In 2007, he came back to collaborate with Myolie Wu in When Dogs Fall In Love With Cats. (and 'Born Rich' in 2009)

As for Louis Koo, after his TVB contract expired he went into the film scene. Even his TVB manager Ronnie left the company in order to continue to be his manager. Among the male stars, Louis currently has the most film productions, locally. Since his departure from TVB, he had not returned to 'maternal home' to shoot any series.

Another FaDan, Maggie Cheung put her showbiz career on hiatus 5 years ago because she suffered from thyroid disease (Graves' Disease). In 2008, she recovered and made a come back to host for a TVB program. Later, she took part in several TVB series My Better Half, Beauty Knows No Pain and the most recent Forensic Heroes III, replacing Charmaine Sheh.
